关于我
I've lived in California, USA my entire life, growing up in the greater San Diego area before relocating to and settling in Northern California. I did not get a lot of opportunities to travel growing up (especially out of the states) but it has always been something I wanted to experience more of.
I have always been a very logical, pragmatic person which I think contributed to my pursuing a career in the hard sciences. I really enjoy thinking and talking about the world and what makes it turn. I try to take every opportunity to learn from others and be open minded, even if it can be difficult sometimes when your ideas are challenged but I think that makes it all the better and I love a good debate!
I've been spending a lot of time over the past few years reflecting on my life and what I have accomplished so far and what I want to improve on. As a more practical person, I spent a lot of time trying to prepare for my future and check off some of those boxes: get a college degree, get a good job, etc. As I get closer to thirty I have begun to recognize that while I have accomplished a lot, I still feel unfulfilled and there is a lot I have been missing out on and want to pursue and experience. I've never been very spontaneous but am now practicing what I call "planned spontaneity" in order to have more experiences, where I will plan a trip or event on a whim while having it be far enough in advance it still satisfies my practical/planning brain.
I've been working on developing my hobbies and have really gotten into hiking and backpacking, especially over the past couple years. Living in Sonoma County, there is a lot of excellent hiking close by and I try to go out most weekends. I also really enjoy different cuisines and cooking. I'll try anything at least once, sometimes more if I'm really trying to convince myself I like it! Living in California, I've always been surrounded by a strong Mexican influence and that has definitely passed over into my cooking style. I have also been trying to practice photography more (although it is definitely a work in progress) and get more comfortable using my DSLR.
I have a few different motivations when going to a new place. On one hand, I can really enjoy seeing the sights and doing the tourist thing but I'm not always the biggest fan of crowds and would be perfectly happy seeing some lesser known attractions, or visiting a little hole in the wall restaurant or bar, instead of some of the hot spots or taking an expensive tour. I love talking to and meeting new people and I would say I can pretty outgoing and independent. Lastly, I will take any opportunity to get outside hiking or otherwise. If I haven't mentioned your favorite hobby here I would definitely be open to trying it out!
我为什么加入 Couchsurfing
I'm interested in traveling more; specifically, solo traveling. I would really like the opportunity to meet locals, learn about different cultures, and maybe make some lasting connections! I thought Couchsurfing could be a good platform for meeting people and experiencing destinations as a women traveling alone.

I know how to make soap from scratch (with lye) and have been doing it for a couple years, which really satisfies my inner scientist. I also know a fair amount about local microbrews, wines, and hiking spots.
