About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Write my dissertation.

ABOUT ME

I've . . . changed a lot in the past couple of years. I'm still quite introverted but i'm much better at managing it. I'm passionate in my academic pursuits and i love intensely those friends who are my confidants. I reject privacy on principle; my favorite subjects are the ones people secretly wish they could talk more openly about. I still suffer from severe trampoline syndrome. Among the labels that i think are most important (for the sake of visibility, not to define myself), i identify as secular humanist, conscientious lifestyler, welfare capitalist, atheist, and polyamorous. Still with me over there?

PHILOSOPHY

The acquisition of knowledge about the world and our place in it. (I'm finally fitting in with everyone else on this one!)

Goodwill.

Never a dull moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Trying to couchsurf (or at least meet up with CSers) every trip i take, learning what i can from my hosts. I can't host much but i frequent the local gatherings.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been to Berkeley thrice and stayed with a different host each time, once at a student co-op that inspired me to move into my current cohousing community. (Unfortunately, hence the lack of definitely available couch.) I don't know if i could stand living alone ever again, with all the potential that comes with cohabitation.

Interests

Coffee (origins, trading, roasting, brewing, delivering, drinking, building community over/through), dancing (square, contra, DJ party), bicycle maintenance. I harbor the delusion that i'll get to play bass (or just gut bucket) in an old-time jam before i die.

Music, Movies, and Books

These have had a more significant impact on me than most: the books "1984", "Heart of Darkness", "Wuthering Heights", the "Foundation" trilogy, "Finite-Dimensional Vector Spaces", "Cat's Cradle", the "Mars" trilogy, and "Sandman"; the band Blue Öyster Cult, the musical "Rent", the album "Give Up", and the songs "Like a Rolling Stone", "Deadbeat Club", and "Bernard's Song"; the movies "Gojira", "Fight Club", and "Splendor" and the interactive experience of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The abundance of peacocks on the campus of Tec de Monterrey actually did amaze me. That kind of occasional stark beauty and contrast i've not experienced elsewhere.

I've played frisbee on the beach of Viña del Mar with a cluster of algebraic combinatorialsts.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll talk or tutor pure maths with anyone, just about any time. I want to learn to play acoustic bass, or any instrument that'll get me in on an acoustic jam session. I advise anyone with the opportunity to join or live in a co-op! (Thanks to Jack, i've done this for a little bit.)
