About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Build new friendships & find an interim place to put my backpack and my head at night during first month of welding school (waiting for student loans) in Victoria .

ABOUT ME

Here are some phrases I've heard alot:
Interested, Curious, Up for Adventures, Creative in many mediums, Seeks balance but is crazy-passionate in her values, Fun, Authentic, Caring, Loves to meet new people and to laugh, Not easy to pin down, Not succinct.

Maybe I'll just quote from cards/facebook messages:)

"Thanks for chatting so long with me - I really enjoyed the wide ranging talk. You are one very interesting human being and I am delighted to have met you/seen you again. I find you are quite compelling and provocative. You spark me out of my lethargy in life. Wow deep. I may have trouble sleeping cause I am pondering some of the things you said."

"Corrie I'm giving you this necklace for your journey. The way it looks is the way you represent Chaos Theory: From a distance it is not logical or ordinary but when properly understood, patterns emerge. In you there are clear deeply thought-out behaviours based on deeply held values and goals. I love that about you and I love that you are not obvious."

PHILOSOPHY

I think... it's expressed in what I love and why ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd love to join local events, expeditions, hikes etc. If people are willing to host me I'd be happy to cook yummy meals for you in advance (I'll be welding from 2pm-9pm Mon-Fri)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had housemates who used to have couch-surfing accounts and we'd often have foreign or inter-provincial visitors visit us in Kitchener.
Also, just generally, informally I've welcomed many friends of friends to crash when extra room was needed after parties or for visits of weddings etc. and have been welcomed mutually.

Interests

* I love enduring design and living spaces. I'm currently fascinated by how multi-purpose/compact/origami design inspires a modern life while lowering need for a large individual space and resource footprint (ie. Items like this http://tinyurl.com/7ejbua3 ) I would love to live in an "earthship" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthship) and grow bananas in my house and be independent of most utility services. However, I've always wanted to be a turtle (with my home on my back) so I'm currently considering a shipping container that transforms into different rooms. I would also love to call a sailboat home base again.

* I love sailing, diving, photography & cinematography, singing & music, being in the wilderness, animals, welding, learning, eating new foods and have an addiction to podcasts, books on tape, youtube how-to's & hacker-spaces/art-labs.

* I love re-creating items and ideas and helping generate new self-value for marginalized people. I prefer to do this in a co-operative structure but am internally driven to do this on a daily personal basis regardless if I have someone to bounce ideas off. Functional art often emerges from this habit (ie lamps welded from old bikes, chandeliers from old chairs and broken bus stop glass or a re-upholstered vintage egg-chair). I've been working on getting a website portfolio of these up along with my photography (Roamstills.com) but it seems this a bigger learning curve than anticipated - so please forgive the "underconstruction" nature of it.

* I love thinking about systems (social, machinery, computer, infrastructure etc.) and wondering how I can help tweak them to support both healthy and conscious lifestyles for humans and a non-destructive attitude for the rest of bio-diversity we often ignore. I'd love to see cities plant veggies and fruit trees more than flowers and grass and employ perma-culturalists as city-workers. I'd love to see an alternative to salt developed for use on highways and have crops planted along the kilometres of road-network rather than failing grasses and invasive species. I believe the train could save the world if we'd let it. I'd like to see less Monsanto control and better nutrition going into people & more osteopaths, thai-massage therapists and acupuncturists funded by medical coverage than pills. I like to see kids outside and people being healthily-physically affectionate with each other. I LOVE when people purposefully unlearn their neural-network patterning and choose lives that are congruent with values they've been purposeful about adopting.

*I could go on forever. I guess it's easier to say what I'm NOT interested in:
-most things that end in "ism" ie. age-ism, sex-ism, race-ism, national-ism
-Mysticism/superstition ie. the idea that something or someone other than you controls your life or your "destiny".
-lazyness, selfishness, apathy and especially ego-centrism (the lack of recognition of the truth of 1 persons importance but still smallness, dependence, connected-ness to a very big world).
-the forcing of beliefs or values on other people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Foreign films as well as North American with great cinematography. I'm getting into Anime a little lately as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Being on a wilderness lake in a lightning storm and similarly sailing Lake Ontario July 1st evening and witnessing 4 hours and 6 cities worth of fireworks along the way.
-Swimming in Bio-Luminescent Pacific coves.
-Hiking Himalayan, Appalachian, Rocky, Titiwangsa, Absaroka, Adirondack, Catskills, Laurentian Mountain ranges (though, the Canadian shield and Niagara escarpment in Ontario are beautiful competition)
-Diving in South Thailand... underwater world blows my mind everytime.

Teach, Learn, Share

In future I might be able to offer ideas on the best ways to re-create old items into new useful ones or weld-repair items.
