About Me

I'm a professional in my early thirties who loves couchsurfing and is often up to host at random times since my schedule is fairly random. I enjoy traveling and doing my best to make more time for it. I'm finding there's so much to do and explore in my own city, that I'm often very content to be right here!

If you're looking to surf I get a lot of requests and unfortunately cannot take many of them because of how many I get. To up your chances, here are my preferences on hosting:
1. If you want to request a couch, please put in a formal request.
2. Please have references, preferably from past hosts, as well as a couple photos so I know you're real.
3. Please ask for however long you plan on staying, but know my typical stay is no more than two nights.
Happy surfing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm primarily a host who tries to surf on occasion. I've met a bunch of amazing peeps through CS and continue to meet more. Having connections like them makes me want to travel more and gives me options for people to meet up when I get where I'm going.

I've used CS to supplement a cross-country (USA) bike tour in 2015 and when I was a college student on a budget years ago. I still love the kindness and warmness of the community and try to stay active.

As a side note from the old days of CS, I have to leave this bit in. I learned about CS when my two friends, Liah and Chloe, used CS through much of North and South America, Asia and Europe on a pretty cool journey.

Interests

I practice emergency medicine and try to find interests beyond to keep my mind fresh. Lately, I've been enjoying foraging mushrooms and am working on connecting more to nature through ID'ing wild plants, birds and trees. I'm dipping my toe in programming through CS50x and like to cook.

For general activities, I try to stay running while maintaining an injury-free status. I love cycling and commute by bike when I can. Historically, I've sailed and windsurfed a ton but have not had the access to boats and boards that I used to.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: so much sci-fi with the Hyperion Cantos being one of my favorite series. I'm trying to challenge myself with non-fiction and am currently reading One Summer: 1927 by Bill Bryson.

Music: almost ANYTHING! There are a few exceptions, but I can like at least one thing from every genre.

Movies: Also so much. I always enjoy horror, animated films and sci-fi. Usually whatever's good on Netflix or HBO.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've biked from the coast of Oregon to the coast of Maine in one go!

I've seen the waves of Lake Superior crash against the shoreline as if I was standing at the edge of the ocean.

I climbed Sugarloaf mountain in RDJ, Brasilia.

I sprinted a 100-meter dash on the original Olympic track in Olympia.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to sail and windsurf and enjoy teaching people. I did so (for money, believe it or not,) for several years. I'm willing to say that the place where I learned creates not the best sailors or windsurfers, but definitely the best learners!

I can also teach: how to tie useful knots, how to sew buttons, how to cook LARGE meals for LARGE groups of people, how to create a disobedient dog, how to procrastinate, how to dig oneself out of the hole of procrastination.

I'm learning drums and just joined a band with almost no experience... so... we'll see how that goes.

I'd love to learn sewing, survival skills, bike maintenance and any fun sports you know.

What I Can Share with Hosts

With hosts: I actually love to do dishes. I can cook up a decent meal from random stuff - my crowning achievements were developed on my bike tour. I can teach rigging and sailing a dinghy and probably wing it on a keel boat. I can try to fix up a bike if you need some maintenance.

With guests: Bicycle maintenance knowledge, a possible loaner bike, knowledge of the Twin Cities and the places one must see, food!
