About Me

I like to consider myself an easy going and laid back kind of person. My life philosophy is to live life in the moment, which I find a lot of travellers also share a similar mindset. I have made this year and 2018's goal to experience as much of the world and myself as I can. This year I have travelled around Europe for three months where I had spent two of the months solo travelling, and now I'm addicted! I have contracted the travel bug! Now that I have milked my bank account dry (hence it will be at least a few month before my next big travel) I am focusing on expanding my skill set and finding my hobbies. I am really interested in learning the German language (I would love to live in Berlin), taking up ceramics, yoga and spirituality. I am also studying a Bachelors of Arts degree, majoring in Philosophy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Before solo travelling I had honestly had doubts and concerns about CS. My housemate had always wanted to offer our couch to travellers but I was weary about the people that I would have to share my home with. So with that mentality I had never considered CS as an option for accommodation whilst travelling.

Fast forward two months into solo travelling (I'm now a lot more open minded and I have a better understanding of the travelling/backpacking lifestyle),due to a series of unfortunate events,I was stranded in Munich, Germany. It was storming, freezing cold, I had no warm clothes, no accommodation, barely any money and a dying phone with no-where to charge. As it was during Oktoberfest, and at such short notice, the cheapest hostels where averaging at $100AUD per night - totally out of my price range! I had contemplated sleeping over night at the bus station, but I would have frozen to death plus still unable to charge my phone. In a desperate attempt, with the little phone battery I had left, I made a CS account and made a public post explaining my situation. Unfortunately, my phone had died so I gave in and stayed a night at the nearest hostel. To my complete shock when I had recharged my phone I had 10+ offers from people offering me their home for the night after seeing my post. The kindness of these strangers had completely warmed my heart - I was dumbfounded!

From there, I had decided to give CS a try for the next place that I had visited and that weekend was the best weekend of my entire life. There is something so special about experiencing a city through a locals perspective. I had yearned for this experience my whole travels. My hosts were so friendly and welcoming and they really made sure that I had the best time that I could in their home city.

I love how generous, selfless, and open the CS community is. There are definitely times when solo travelling through a foreign country that you can feel so alone, but the CS community really removes that feeling knowing that you have easy communications to locals wanting to share their country with you.

I'm really looking forward to my future CS experiences and I hope that one day I can give back and offer my home to travellers as well :)
