About Me

My name is Courtney. I recently joined the Peace Corps and will be moving to Thailand in January to teach English.

In my free time I love hiking and traveling. New York State is full of amazing waterfalls and the Adirondack Mountains.

I also love cooking. I worked under a German chef for years then became a personal chef/ live-in nanny.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Get to explore the world while meeting some cool people in the process. I want to listen to the wealth of stories from people on cs. I'm hoping in 10 years, I'll become a veteran surfer that hosts as well.

Interests

I use Alltrails to help me find great hikes anywhere I am. I also love to geocache on these trails. If you've never done it, give it a shot. This is another wide-reaching global community that is loads of fun.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
There are far too many to list here, but I will do my best to give you my sense of variety. I love Spotify. It makes some great playlist and I can download anything offline.

Bands / Artists: Linkin Park, A Day to Remember, Paramore, Evanescence, Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett, Dropkick Murphys, Loreena Mckennitt, Fishermans Friends / Nathan Evans (I've had sea shanties on repeat lately), Mike Shinoda, The Neighborhood, Oasis, Maluma, Eminem, Arctic Monkeys

Books:
I wish I read more, but I lose focus. I've been doing better with audiobooks. I love Harry Potter, the only book series I've actually read cover to cover. Admittedly, I read them after watching the movies. I am a Ravenclaw. What's your house?

I am currently listening to the complete works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Edgar Allen Poe. Always had a keen interest in Sherlock Holmes and Poe. Likely what started my interest in crime tv dramas. I especially love the ones from BBC.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a road trip around the United States. I saved up enough money to pay my bills and bought enough canned goods and granola bars to live carefree for a while. I slept in the back of my pickup in Walmart parking lots and showered at Planet Fitness.

Teach, Learn, Share

I hope to become a Mathematics professor at a community college. I had a great experience at a local college that made all the difference in my life. I joined the debate team, outdoor adventure club, and student government. I had small classes and easy access to professors for 1-1 questions. So, I hope to continue this sentiment in my own career.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I was a live-in nanny/ housekeeper/ personal chef, so I can help out around the house. I have also spent time in gardens (not an expert or anything, but I can help with watering/ weeding/ picking what's ripe).

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, France, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
