Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Unfortunately the city I am from does not have a lively couchsurfing community. As a result, I have stopped using the CS website the last few years. Throughout this time, I have also not been in a situation to host but have surfed and ALWAYS welcome meeting up with other couchsurfers. I have currently relocated to Vietnam and am looking to meet up with locals to become better acquainted with this beautiful country and its culture.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I initially joined couchsurfing to meet people that would be eager to show a lone Canadian traveller an unforgettable adventure. In 2013, after the most amazing Summer/Fall of couch surfing, I can whole-heartedly say that I have never met such interesting and open-minded people in all my life. I hope to continue to connect with genuine and passionate people while continuing to have positive couchsurfing experiences!

Interests

Travelling, music, concerts, reading, running, hiking, biking, fishing, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing.

I also love learning and hope to always go to school, or keep busy with something intellectually and creatively stimulating.

Music:
Too many to name...The Doors, Modest Mouse, Johnny Marr, Quasi, British Sea Power, The National, Nirvana, Duke Special, Rufus Wainwright, Bobby Womack, Dweezil Zappa, The Smiths, The Jam, Arcade Fire, Gomez, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Grandaddy, Cake, Bob Dylan, and so many more!

Movies:
I must admit I am not a huge movie buff, but would include Shawshank Redemption, Fried Green Tomatoes, Superbad, (anything) Disney and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels among my favourites.

Television:
Mrs. Browns Boys, Still Game, Father Ted, Barry, South Park, Bob's Burgers, BoJack Horseman and Arrested Development.

Books:
I don't read nearly as much as I should, but love Shantaram, Robin Hood, Little Women, The Book of Negroes and To Kill a Mockingbird.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking Lake McArthur:
Straddling the Continental Divide on the border of Alberta and BC lays Lake McArthur in Yoho National Park. Access to this national treasure is restricted and requires a reservation that needs to be made at least three months in advance. The gruelling process to make a booking was worth the awe-inspiring hikes that boasted the most spectacular mountain vistas I had ever seen. I remember feeling so at peace as I overlooked the glacier-clad peaks, where for the first time in ages I was free of cell phones, computers and the sound of traffic. As the fog lifted and the cool morning temperatures broke, I sat convinced that I was the only person in the world. That night as I laid my head down to go to sleep I remember feeling so blessed to have seen one of the greatest jewels of the Canadian Rockies.
