ABOUT ME

When we are introduced around town people say this is Becky and John from Pack and Paddle. That is our business, but also one of our biggest community connections. We love Lafayette and all it has to offer and Pack & Paddle is a big part of that.
Becky is the half of us that is quick to embrace new friends and experiences. She love sitting around the dining room table and sharing a wonderful home cooked meal - usually one she made (and John caught - fish).
John is the creative bearded guru (just kidding) - but he is the spark and the energy behind so much of what we do. His passion is salt water fishing from a kayak. If he meets a fellow fisherman, I just have to sit down because it is going to be a while!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Until recently I had never heard the term couch surfing, but when I learned about it, I knew it was for us! In 2006 we spent 5 1/2 months backpacking the Appalachian Trail. So many people took us into their homes and shared their lives with us. Through this experience we were changed. We wanted to start a hostel, but the business type aspect that it would require didn't appeal to us. We just want to share our lives with people and this is a perfect avenue for us to do this.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have had many travelers come our way who we have invited into our homes. It may have been bicyclists we met at the library or our store, or writers on assignment coming to our area. We are excited to have found a way to connect through couch surfing!

Interests

Becky - I love cooking, working in my yard and visiting with people. Music is a very special part of our area, and while just a beginner, I am learning to play the fiddle! We enjoy going to The Blue Moon and other local places to soak the tunes in. We also like to bicycle which is how we commute much of the time. I also love, love canoeing/ kayaking. Everything from the quiet swamps of Louisiana to the beautiful clear running Buffalo River in Arkansas, to the white water of North Carolina.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love adventure travel books, my favorite is Miles from Nowhere by Barbara Savage. Also really liked Three Cups of Tea which our book club just finished. As far a movies go, I love coming of age and sports movies. John accuses me of picking wacky movies most of these in the documentary & foreign categories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think one of the most amazing experiences of our life was hiking the Appalachian Trail. We met so many people and had so many experiences over 5+ Months, we came home changed people.
