About Me
CURRENT MISSION
The world is our oyster! My oyster is OPENING!
ABOUT ME
My motto: CARPE DIEM! SEIZE THE DAY! GRYP DIE DAG! (Afrikaans: my home language) I'm a adventurer at heart, but did not have the finances to realize my worldwide couch dreams, but through the internet, I surf where ever I want to! I'm a passionate person about all things meaningful in life - occupation (teacher of learners with learning disabilities), family (loving wife and two beautiful sons), friends (I have few REAL friends, but those I have are for life),curious about the world (here my travellust emerges, willing to be adventurous, that includes making new aquintances, learning about other cultures and sharing mine), food (I love cooking, great conversation piece - what are you cooking tonite?!,essence and variety of life!) and good wine(savoured and aged like good friends), LIFE ITSELF IN ALL ITS GLORIOUS FULLNESS, but also keeping in mind that we have a destiny waiting of which this life is but a spark!
PHILOSOPHY
CARPE DIEM!.... with one eye firmly fixed on our ETERNAL DESTINY!
Passionate for life! Not a moment to spare!
There is a PLACE in the (African) SUN for EVERYONE!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I envisage to contribute to the richness and variety of this project in my small way by letting you know as fully as possible what my corner of the earth looks like and how I endeavour each day to make it meaningful for myself and others around me. I intend to be a host ambassador for South Africa with you coming to visit me and hopefully I will have the opportunity to get to know your place in the sun better by chatting, email and travelling there!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Through books I have travelled the world since I was able to read. My creative parents encouraged my imaginary travels with more books, atlasses and geograghy lessons to make me a world traveller since childhood. In my later years I followed the conservative path of study, work, family and friends - the greater part of my income invested in my children's futures and enabling them to travel where I haven't been yet. Now that my wife and I are retired - children have flown the nest worldwide - the wanderlust can take flight again. In 2005 we made our first leap to TURKEY - a facinating experience. With the internet I have of course broadened my vision even wider AND I hope with Couchsurfing.com the dreams will be more attainable by getting to know real people with the same passion. During SOCCER 2010 the world came to my couch! An awesome experience!
