About Me

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia and love travelling.
I have been through India, Nepal, South East Asia, Pacific Islands, Europe, Scandinavia, the Caribbean, all of the Americas and of course my own country :-)

I've trekked many paths and many mountains including Everest Base Camp, Annapurna, Ciudad Perdida, Machu Picchu, Arcatenango to name a few.

Muay Thai (Thai boxing), Salsa dancing and music, yoga and general fitness are all strong passions of mine, and I love sharing in those realms.

I like to learn languages, and currently a keen student of Spanish and Portuguese. I’ve spent time in many vocations teaching English - from Colombian public institutes to smaller Cambodian NGOs.

I've survived mountainous tumbles, Bangkok bar-fight rumbles yet still standing with a smile.

I'm jovial, energetic, conscious, clean cut, meticulously tidy and live with gratitude.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To connect with people during my travels; to learn, experience and also share my own insights with hosts.

I also intend to share my home in Melbourne with visitors, with a view to giving them an authentic experience of my magnificent city!

Interests

Salsa:
Currently in Colombia studying in Cali. Salsa is more than a passion for me; it is an obsession. I dream about it, tap rhythms unconsciously and love discovering new music/places to dance.

Muay Thai:
I discovered this wonderful martial art travelling in Thailand several years ago. Since then I train in the sport's home every year and have lived/studied at many camps across Thailand.
Muay Thai is a significant aspect of Thai and Buddhist culture. It requires deep dedication and discipline, which now informs my broader outlook.

Trekking:
I love the mountains, grappling with nature and the general challenge of trekking.
So far I have climbed Mt Kinabalu (Borneo), Volcano Arcatenango (Guatemala) and completed the treks Ciudad Perdida (Colombia) , El Mirador (Guatemala), Anapurna Circuit (Nepal), Mt Everest Base Camp (Nepal), plus many others in the Himalayas and Asia.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
I have played drums all my life and can teach kit drums, tablas and musical forms.
Though not qualified I can teach salsa basics.
I can also teach Muay Thai basics and get you on your way to a good self defense and fitness regime.
I'm a qualified English-as-foreign-language teacher.

Learn:
I hope to learn from hosts and colleagues, in terms of both localised culture/places/etc and also about the people... I am always curious about people's individual stories, their motivations, and what makes them tick.
