Overview
About Me
From rural China, with a curious mind about everything. My husband Chris is from the US and we are both online language teachers so we often travel here and there. Since we are both digital nomads and don’t have a place to host anyone at the moment but we are open to meet up and stay a few nights couchsurfing.
I believe life is a journey to discover myself, to open up all the possibilities, to meet people with all different opinions which I might not agree but certainly respect.
Human behaviors are very intriguing to me. What's more intriguing is the mechanism of ourselves. How do our hereditary and experiences shape us? Why are we so powerful learning machines?
I find art of various kinds so pleasing, whether it is the art itself or the way it is produced. It's like an ever going experiment. Especially I love the moment being enthralled.
Tradtions of our own culture facinates me too. Through reading, I am able to take on great thoughts from the past which is still enlightening at present. We haven't changed much, have we? Along with that I have one mission- to bring the traditional costumes of Han ethnicity back, at least wearing them during traditional festivals. By doing so I have been learning how to make it from scratch from sewing, measuring, picking up fabrics and am able to make some stitch by stitch. They are beautiful!
Equipped with an open mind, I am open to changes in life. Live and learn!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Such a great way to know people, to explore in the area from a local perspective and save budget.
Pay it forward. I would like to host people, fellow travelers. Please include YOLO in your request that you are well aware of my current hosting conditions- check my home section for details.
I am not in an ideal condition to host people but meanwhile I do want to contribute to the community.

Music, Movies, and Books
Always try to expose myself to different music, because that's how I can find my preferences.
Among the movies I have watched, I love 12 Angry Men. It's important that even if you are the minority, speak out when you disagree. Others that takes a place in my mind are
August Rush
Tatanic( The very first English movie I watched when I was in college.)
Forest Gump
The Terminal
Rear Window
7 Sins
Beauty and Beast
Dear John
Cast Away
Inception
Coherence
The Conjuring
La Buena Vida

Reading truly widen my horizon. I love to read books from ancient times, philosophy, novels of foreign languages, bibliography, classics, mysteries, etc. I am quite spontaneous of pick up books. For example, I have been reading The world is flat which was picked up at a book fair because I was curious if Friedman's theory is still sounded since many things have changed in the last decade. Oddly, I like to pick up news related to China from Western media to gain a different perspective of reading my own country. To be honest, most often, it is negative. The value of reading it is that it still contains some truth that is complimentary to what I have heard inside of the wall. Sadly, that's also how most people think of who we are from the image built by media. But I will take the mission to show people the humane side of us.
Books that I befriended with
Sophie's World To me it is a very interesting way to present philosophical concepts. It's very entertaining.
The Count of Monte Cristo How much can hate do to a person? I was very impressed by his perseverance in revenge. It's a life I could not imagine of.
平凡的世界 by Lu Yao路遥 If translated literally, it would be an ordinary world. It's a long novel depicting the life of a young man in the 1960s of China. How was he struggling to change his life but in the end could not escape the invisible ceiling that refrain him to make a real change in life. It makes me think about my own life. TBC.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Don Quixote( just start to read, Eduardo said I should postpone reading it after my South America trip)
Gone Girl
The Fact of a Body
Little Life
American Marriage
Americanah
Tuesdays with Morrie - About life and death. Listen to the person who is dying for a last life lesson. What I remember most is Learning how to die is how to live. The book discussed about major topics in our life. I hope I had someone like that in my life would share such wisdom with me.
......
Institute by Stephen King
Anyway, take your mind for a journey too.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Be myself. For example I like to make traditional costumes, wear them and show them around. Be a live ad for lost treasure. Be the change I want to see.
Go hiking Huangshan, Huashan
Road trip in US
Trip around China
Got into Graduate School with TAship, yeah! I am so happy to be able to return to academia.

Teach Chinese in Language Immersion Camps
Teach Chinese, English and Travel the World
Teach, Learn, Share
Pick up some Chinese with me~
Share an inside view from a little village, town, out of the province then later out of the country. Feel privileged to be able to see cultures from both China and US!
Cook authentic Chinese cuisine(not all of the cuisines in the country, but we can experiment).
Teach Mandarin or my own dialect(lol).
Used to teach English in China, major in business English and working as an au pair in US for almost 2 years. Likes to learn other languages and culture. Mingling with people from different cultures breaks down the stereotypes we might hold to the culture.
