I traveled alone for the first time a year ago to San Francisco. It helped me see what needed to be done, what I needed to know about the city, and what I neded to bring with me before departing. After that, I planned a 4 day low-budget trip for me and 3 friends to NYC, the most exhausting, complete and amazing trip I've ever taken.
