About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore explore explore! I just want to get on the road and stay there. But when I come home, you can stay on my couch.

ABOUT ME

I'm now closer to 30 than I am to 20, and realized that I still have so much to see! I've traveled, but not nearly as much as I want to. I was born and raised on Prince Edward Island, Canada. I love cooking (and consequently, eating), thunder and lightning storms, reading, kayaking, trying new things, good conversations, driving... I guess I could just sum it up by saying I love life in general. :)

After being a full-time musician for half of my life, I've decided I need a change. I'll be heading back to school to finally finish that psychology degree, and I'm looking forward to the next phase and whatever it may bring. Right now, my days are filled with planning for the next year (education, work, travel), exercise (running, yoga, weights), and the good things in life (spending time with friends and family, reading, and knocking things off of my list - http://52things52weeks.tumblr.com).

PHILOSOPHY

It might be over-used, but I always say, "Everything happens for a reason." Shit happens sometimes, but learning from it and looking ahead is so much better than carrying around a bitter heart. Another thing: I usually follow my gut instinct. It rarely lets me down.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just sold my house so I currently don't have a place to host anyone, unfortunately. I'm in wander mode, but when I'm in a place for an extended period of time, I'll definitely host again. I've been able to host some lovely folks from Canada and Europe when I did have a place, though. I've surfed in Europe and South America and have had nothing but amazing experiences.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

100% positive so far. Helps to restore your faith in the goodness of humankind.

Sadly, I just logged in for the first time in quite awhile (I was working on a cruise ship for awhile and wasn't checking CS) and just saw that my response rate is fairly miserable. It's only because I wasn't in Canada and had very limited internet access, not because I'm a cranky or ungrateful person!

Interests

Music, cooking, reading, discovering new places, soaking up the sun, drinking hot chocolate during snowstorms, kayaking, designing my future cottage, learning, yoga, languages, adrenaline-rush activities... Lots of things. Tip of the iceberg.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I can listen to *almost* anything. Foo Fighters, Keith Urban, Radiohead, Joel Plaskett, celtic stuff, 80's & 90's, Mumford & Sons, Modest Mouse, Glen Hansard... As long as they're not incessantly screaming at me angrily, I'm okay with it.

Movies: Once, Waking Ned Devine, PS I Love You (primarily for the Ireland scenery), The Usual Suspects, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels... I don't watch a lot of movies. Short attention span.

Books: Just finished reading "Neither Here Nor There" and also "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time". I'm mostly interested in real life stories about traveling and searching and learning. I recently read "The Alchemist" and "The Life of Pi". I'm attempting to read "A Tale of Two Cities" as part of my classics list. Also, I'm right in the middle of "Guns, Germs & Steel".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed a mountain in Kananaskis, Alberta, on the edge of the Rockies. It might not sound like much, but coming from the land of beaches and "gently rolling hills", climbing a mountain and seeing the view from the top was pretty spectacular. Definitely a highlight.

Went skydiving in Interlaken, Switzerland. There are no words.... other than that I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Volunteered in Santiago with Habitat For Humanity. Such a phenomenal experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a full-time musician, so I can probably talk a bit about the music biz if you're interested... My main instrument is the fiddle, but I also play the piano and stepdance. I've been lucky to be able to travel quite a bit with music.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
