About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Yessssssssss

ABOUT ME

I'm an excitable College student trying to make sense of things while enjoying not having any answers. I grew up in the Upper West Side of Manhattan to a family of musicians (Dad-Piano/Trumpet/Accordian; Mom-Piano/Bass; Two sisters: Banjo, guitar, bass; Me: Violin-Fiddle/Piano, and all of us sing). I've always gone to school within 20 blocks of my house, so I'm always feeling an itch to satiate my desire to see the tremendous beauty of this world.

PHILOSOPHY

Balance, timing, luck, and conquering the fear of the unknown are the elements of a fulfilling life.

"You are so young, so much before all beginning, and I would like to beg you, dear Sir, as well as I can, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer." -Rilke

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am brand new to this shindig but traveling is on my eternal to-do list so this CouchSurfing deal hits the spot. I'm going to try traveling first before having people crash in my tiny College dormroom.

I come from a family of musician, and growing up, we would let musicians from our network of friends crash at our house on there way through the city. So, though I'm new to the website, the act of the couchsurfing is somewhat familiar to me.

Music: Most everything. Favorite band: the Beatles. Favorite composer: Bach. Favorite Sax player: Cannonball Adderley. Favorite Jazz Pianist: Bill Evans. Favorite Old-Time Fiddler: Bruce Molsky. Favorite singer-songwriter: Andrew Bird. Favorite Irish Fiddler: Martin Hayes. Favorite Rapper: Kanye West. Favorite Bass Player: Charles Mingus.

Teach, Learn, Share

Cross-tuning the fiddle is a practice done in Old-Time Appalachian Fiddle music that changes the tuning from G-D-A-E to either G-D-G-D or A-E-A-E (or other variants). This allows you to play the same melody in different octaves with ease and gives the fiddle a different resonance.
