About Me

I was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and lived there up until I went to college, first at the University of Colorado at Boulder for 2 years, then transferred to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland for 3 years where I finished a Masters of Arts with Honours in English Literature. Most of my life is dedicated to my creative pursuits. I'm a singer and musician first and foremost, with the ability to sing all styles and genres, I love learning songs in different languages. My professional career is based in travel, portrait, and documentary photography, and directing, filming, or editing music videos or short films. I'm a dedicated practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga as I've seen it change lives in very positive ways, so I'm happy to also give instruction here and there. I consider myself a well-rounded person with an open-heart and open-mind, with a love of sharing, a fun, flexible, and generous attitude, and one with the spirit. There is so much to do in this world, so much to love and so little time for us little human beings who exist only in the blink of an eye.

PHILOSOPHY:
'Inlakesh' (Mayan): I am another you. Yo soy un otro tu. We are all reflections of the same source, one consciousness, manifesting in infinite patterns and forms. Somos uno. Our beliefs create our thoughts, our thoughts create our feelings, our feelings create our behaviors, our behaviors create the conditions of reality in which we live. Our beliefs, thoughts, and intentions create the world around us; if they remain true and positive, then you will receive truth and positivity. (Ho' Oponono)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm an avid traveler, and I don't really have a steady income as a freelance photographer, so in order to make my projects, I need some basic accommodation, please! Plus, I love making friends all over the world, it makes a big difference when you travel if you know someone from that place rather than just taking the tourist route.

Music, Movies, and Books

-I currently listen to a lot of Salsa, Samba and other Latin styles of music because I live in Mexico. I also live for cinematic music since I love making music videos. I grew up listening to classical music, with a preference towards Chopin, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Vivaldi, Saint-Saens, and many others. I was in a Sublime cover band for a couple years so lots of Ska and Reggae. Then I was a electronic house, dubstep, and drum & bass DJ for a couple years, from Burial to High Contrast to Bondax. Love all jazz & blues, from Miles Davis, to Billie Holiday, to Elmore James, to Duke Ellington, etc. But a couple of my all time favorites to listen to are Bonobo, James Blake, Andrew Bird, Bill Evans, Dr. Dog, and many many more.

Favorite movies:
- Tree of Life
- Samsara
- The Fountain
- Encounters at the End of the World (Werner Herzog)
- anything by Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Luc Godard, Guillermo del Toro

Favorite Books:
- Siddartha
- The Unbearable Lightness of Being
- The Teachings of Don Juan (currently reading)
- The Doors of Perception
- The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles
- and anything by Alan Watts

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've gone trekking in the Indian controlled side of the Karakoram mountain ranges for 6 weeks near the borders of Tibet and Pakistan, surrounded by highly armed soldiers and tanks at altitudes of 4000-6000+ meters , looking for mega-glaciers for the purpose of replicating historical photographs as a part of a climate-change research project, and I didn't die.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English, music, photography, yoga, meditation, you name it. I'm a natural born teacher.

I'd love to learn more languages, music/dance styles, and cultural wisdom and truths.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Happy to share my music, my art, my positive energy, my stories, my time, my wisdom, knowledge, and compassion.

I might even cook some really delicious veggie stir-fry if you'd like.
