About Me

I admire Couch Surfing spirit of instant friendliness, incredible hospitality, unreserved sharing and occasional partying. I do not have huge hosting and surfing experience -- my thing is rather to meet people for a walk around the city, grab a coffee or dinner and chitchat about everything and anything -- travelling, culture, current affairs, etc. If you consider this description to be too compact, please check out the references section ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet great people and expand my horizons.

Did you know that not so long ago Couch Surfing was totally different? It was a hidden treasure of the internet, it had delicate, yet not flashy design, hosting requests had extremely high response and success rates, and it was embarassing not to return hospitality to your host in some way -- people would travel with bags full of gifts for their hosts, they would cook for hosts or teach hosts how to make meals from their home country, etc. Couch Surfing even had an equal rival for a while, called Hospitality Club, however, it prevailed over time. It never commercially advertized itself. It was a small community (of 1.5 million members worldwide accoring to Wikipedia), yet with a broderly spirit. You never wanted to do anything stupid, because what mattered the most were references that others left for you and that you wrote for others. Search algorhytm was such that people with most guests and most recent log-ins would be at the top of the results page. Countries and cities had their own forum pages with Wiki-advices for prospective travellers, there were forum groups and subgroups for multitude of topics. Members could sign up for instant, daily, weekly or monthly delivery of forum messages. If anyone needed an advice and asked it in forum -- bulk of people would read it immediatelly and respond. Events had an option to mark a probability in steps of 10% that you will attend an event, so by taking a look at these percentages people could get quite a good idea how many people will indeed attend a certain event.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste and interests change over time, it wouldn't be fair to point out anything specific here.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I run a 70k members fb group in Serbian language for finding a travel buddy. Well, it is not particularly amazing, it is just an interesting detail and my attempt to make a positive contribution. Funny detail: my group exists on fb since 2013, and someone was smart enough to make in a fb group with the same name in English, which currently has 2.5 million members. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Couch Surfing is an ongoing cultural exchange -- you continously learn something new and share.
