About Me

I come from Romania and my mother tongue is Hungarian. After finishing university in 2009 I was bitten by the travel bug and wanted to experience living in other countries. My first stop was the Czech Republic, then Indonesia and Denmark for half a year each and then I was back to Czechland again. I have been living in Prague for 6 years now and it feels like home. So this is the base I’d like to explore the world from. It’s happening rather slowly, as I need to work to be able to afford each longer travel, but surely. After a long break I am happily returning to school again in a few weeks, to start a Master’s degree in Social Ecology. So for the next 2 years probably no long adventures, but weekend trips will be my thing. I am happy to host people though, whenever I'm able to spend time with them.

I like people who really listen (this might sound I want to talk all the time, but no, on the contrary, I am more of a listener myself), don’t take themselves too seriously and don’t make big drama out of small things.

PHILOSOPHY
some quotes I like and like too remember from time to time:

I never lose. I either win, or learn. (Nelson Mandela)
The cure for everything is salt water - sweat, tears, or the sea. (Karen Blixen)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When traveling, I can meet locals easily this way. I would be too shy to ask random people in a foreign country to tell me something about their culture. Couchsurfing solves this problem by connecting people. When I can't travel, I can still meet people from a different "world" by hosting them in my home.

I like the “How do you…this in your country?” type of conversations. It’s always amazing to discover that things you took for granted can be done differently.

Interests

I studied Anthropology for one semester in Copenhagen, which shaped my worldview quite a lot. The Playback Theatre, likewise. It is a beautiful genre of improvisational theater, whereby actors reenact personal stories told by the audience. No rehearsal, just a lot of attention and ability to connect with others needed. I was attending a Playback Theater workshop for 2 years and quite sad that I can't fit into my life now, due to work and study commitments.

Writing is my main form of self-expression, shared with very few people. That is just one person so far :) Have managed to finish a few short stories and have lots of drafts I will work on one day.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies..too many! Have got some all time favorites, like Dead Man, The Celebration, My Dinner with Andre. Love most works of Jim Jarmusch and Aki Kaurismaki.
Last impressive movie I saw: Incendies.

Music...The Divine Comedy, Owen Pallet, Efterklang, Devendra Banhart, Billie Holiday and many others.

Books...The Magic Mountain, Siddhartha, The Unbearable Lightness of Being...

Do you also tend to forget your favourite something when you are required to list them?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmm. I just find amazing every time I take the courage to step out of my comfort zone.

Ok, one thing
I was traveling across the Indonesian part of Borneo, in a region where quite a lot of modern and half-modern tribes live. Somebody gave us a lift to a Dayak village. There the funeral ceremony of their chief was on its way They killed a bull and several pigs and were dancing and mourning all night long. They let us stay and watch the whole thing. I have so many sensory memories from that day and night..the smell and taste of food, tobacco, their dance and the sound of the drums. After they mourned the chief in their traditional way, to our surprise, there was a proper Catholic burial the next day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love Prague and want my guests to experience the less touristic parts of of the city too. If they want.
I will probably not join you to the Castle and Charles Bridge, but more than happy to take you to places that you would less likely discover alone. I can tell you a thing or two about its history and architecture.

Likewise I'll be happy if you show me the things you like in your city beyond the touristic stuff.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My time, of course.

When eating out am willing to share my food too :) I know that what the other person orders looks always more appetizing.

Countries I’ve Visited

Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Morocco, Turkey
