About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a multi-skilled broadcast journalist who can tell stories as a one man band using video, audio, text, and photos. I've left full time work in that field to pursue tangents that touch upon my passions. In addition to intensive study of Korean language, I am taking a sabbatical in early 2013 to study baking with a friend and fellow ex-journalist who opened her own upmarket bakery not far from the San Francisco Bay area. I am a fairly decent cook, attentive host at house parties, and I have been accused on a few occasions in the past of being funny.

Interests

I am a relatively simple person who prefers simple joys. I love nature, good writing, a great home meal with a nice wine. I am a Koreaphile and an Asiaphile more broadly. I love learning Korean and honing other languages I have studied like French, German, Spanish. I do yoga and love the health benefits, but haven't really mastered some of the advanced stuff like crow pose and headstands. I love hiking, biking, running. Original thinkers and "old souls" really appeal to me. I really dig zombie movies + fiction because of the survival psychology it teases out.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My recent trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia was one awestruck moment after another. I saw Angkor Wat at sunrise, then the other breathtaking temple ruins, some of which are overgrown by massive tree roots that took centuries to extend their reach over the structures.
I spent a year and a half in India, and some of the natural beauty there-- from the Himalayas in the Tibetan exile enclave of Dharamsala to the quiet reflecting water of Nagin Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir Valley left me humbled.
Having spent a bit more than a decade as a foreign correspondent, I want to have more awestruck moments in my own country-- meeting people, seeing some amazing sites-- that I have never gotten around to as of yet.
