About Me

// travel update: out of Brussels till first/second week of January, so likely unable to host you! Write me for more info //

Having got family between Australia, Europe and the Americas (US and Brazil), I grew to be a melting pot of culture and accents (wait till you hear my English!). Traveling is about finding places where we (could)belong, and there is no better way than doing it with locals. I find it amazing and lovely to wander off beaten paths when I travel — having the closest to a local perspective experience is always the goal

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is about gathering amazing people and amazing experiences. As of now, I have used it to stay in Dublin with a mate, and couldn’t really ask for a better time! Unfortunately, our host wasn’t contacted via CSurfing but via a Facebook group. Just moved to Belgium so intend to use it a bit more the coming months :)

// about requests: I usually reply to 100% of my requests/messages, but by ‘request’ the least I expect from you is to read my profile and to write more then a greeting, because by definition, a greeting is NOT a request. Please write ‘winenot’ on your request so I know you read this (;

Interests

Usually topics related to international relations, the UN system, politics and development as a whole, but of course that has loads to do with my undergrad studies. I’m usually an open minded mate, ready to talk about a pretty wide range of topics. I do appreciate people who’ve got world knowledge in the sense of acknowledging their privileges and being open to talk about it. I find myself often in a gap by being considered a white male and therefore undoubtedly privileged for that, but also part of the LGBTQI+ community.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie as of now is called ‘Les Amours Imaginaires’ (Heartbeats in English), a Québécoise production that pretty much talks to me. I’ve worked at Disney World in the past, so I can’t deny I have a thing for Disney movies as well... when it comes to music, I’m pretty much eclectic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One absolutely amazing and spine hearing experience I can tell about is visiting and island once devastated by a tsunami. The local government managed to rebuild, which is not hard to imagine why, since the main economic activity there is tourism. Though, when the full moon hits, and the lowest possible tide comes, it is now possible to walk around the island and find oddly placed objects and debris. It looks like someone just (brutally) placed it there, but also makes you think about everything that went on there. It’s an eerie way to look at the past.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can probably teach some Portuguese and English, both considered mother tongues, maybe some aussie slang too! I do love to cook, so maybe we can cook a risoto together as well (I hope I’ve been cooking it right for the past years, no Italian ever confronted me!)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Culture related to Brazil and Australia, as well as travel experiences and stories from working abroad (I worked for the Walt Disney Company in the past, for instance!)

Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Malaysia, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Thailand, United States
