About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Help people connect with the artistic and social environment of the border between USA and Mexico

ABOUT ME

I studied art facing strong opposition from my family, then became a lawyer 'just in case' and later went traveling around the world to see what was out there, mostly with no budget but a lot of help from friendly locals, so I feel in debt. Finally came back to settle in Tijuana, Mexico, founded a Bachelor in Arts program at a local college, and now I teach there. I live a few blocks away from the fence that divides the north from the south of the world.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that humanity is going down into a new Middle Ages kind of thing because of the breakdown of the materialistic paradigm and I devote my life to building a new paradigm that might give us a shot at a better world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I offer a place to stay and possibly a short tour of the Tijuana/San Diego area, plus the chance to get to know some artists and other local people.

I am working on an art project named 'TRUST, The Couch Surfing Experiment', consisting on the pictures I take from my guests, thoughts on how Couch Surfing allows for TRUST to happen in this non-trusting, cynical world, and some other stuff.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Great! So far we have hosted 21 people in half a year, with a few not-bad experiences, many good and very good and even some extraordinary! I have been consistently working in my Couch Surfing art project and I will continue.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Mmm... I've planted several trees, wrote a couple of books so far, had two beautiful children, made art.

i saw my children be born, saw golden leaves falling from the trees at harajuku in Tokyo, and snow covered monkeys in hot tubs in the mountains of Japan. I saw Van Gogh's L'Eglise d'Auverne and Picasso's Guernica!!! I saw the rooftops of Paris from my shabby little room at the roof of an old building near the Ecole des Beaux Arts.

Teach, Learn, Share

Arsology. A descriptive (non-prescriptive)science devoted to the study of art, created in Tijuana to replace aesthetics, aims at a rational and experimental approach to the understanding of the artistic phenomenon but respecting the pre-rational nature of art.

General Theory of Art. States that art transformed us from anthropoid into human, making possible through representation the creation of rational thinking and language, and later on technology and other cultural products. Also states that the human condition is not a permanent trait, but rather one that must be reacquired on each generation through the continued work of art in any discipline or media, lest this human condition be lost.
