About Me

I hate talking about myself, but here it goes.

My name's Diogo, but everyone calls me Cuco (that's portuguese for Cuckoo), though nobody really knows why I have this nickname. I studied physics (mainly astrophysics), which is quite a boring subject to talk about, so I won't mention it again. During my studies, I was a Free Tour Guide in Lisbon, so I know quite a bit about the city. Eventually, I sold my soul to capitalism and joined a Big Evil Corporation, then I quit and now work in a Not So Evil Fintech now.

I live in Lisbon, Portugal, which is a wonderful town to live, especially in the Summer. I lived in a students dorm for 5 years, then I was in a great place where I could host, but now I'm back to living in a room (blame gentrification!) so hosting became a bit harder. You can still try, though!

I always have a smile on my face, and I prefer hearing what other people have to say rather than talking about me.

I believe the best way to live and enjoy life is to never get too comfortable. You have to keep trying new things, seeing new places and meeting new people. After all, strangers are just friends you have yet to meet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The whole concept Couchsurfing is based on sharing, which I think is one of the most underrated things in current society.

We share stories, life experiences, wonderful memories, our knowledge and, sometimes, even our house. That's amazing!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I'm quite ecletic. I love post-rock bands, such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Do Make Say Think. I also like Interpol, Neil Young, Arcade Fire, Tool, amongst other things. Also Bossa Nova, 70's Funk and World Music, just because.

Books - Kafka, Dostoievski, Tolstoi, Dumas, Pessoa, Hemingway.

Movies - Godfather Part I and II, Forrest Gump, Taxi Driver, La vitta e bella, Gran Torino, Cidade de Deus, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Pulp Fiction. I also like many old movies of the 30s and 40s.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, the most amazing thing I've ever done was walking in the railroad section of 25th April Bridge. Not recommended.

I also managed to couchsurf in New York City for 28 straight days. Highly recommended.

Teach, Learn, Share

I just realized that I have no practical skills to speak of. Other than being able to open beer bottles in random places. There's that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you portuguese (dunno what for, tbh), or cook you something. I also promise I'll wash your dishes and pay you at least one beer.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Italy, Morocco, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
