ABOUT ME

Been a mum and nurse - now an Inclusion Support Officer for children and young people with emotiuonal and behavioural problems.
- met Ian some time ago and we get on great.
He has recently qualified as a masseur. However he's been a fireman, run a financial planning business for 15 years whilst some of the time working for the National Trust recruiting members in the beautiful lake District valleys. Also a volunteer warden for the National park too for around 10 years. We both do a tremendous amount recreationally and holiday wise together.
We love walking hills and coastlines - He is doing the SW coastal path (635 miles) in stages and we have nearly finished the Wainwright Coast to Coast - 50 miles to go. Love holidaying in Cornwall and Scotland in UK and Portugal in particular in Europe.
We just returned from Solfest music festival where we were both stewards - awesome - see caveman and woman pictures in photos. *Update - going to Solfest again for the second time next week!*
Couch and bed may be available at mine plus same at his nearby flat. We don't smoke.
Neither of us have much money but weirdly we are the happiest we have each been in years!
We don't expect much so every nice thing that happens is a bonus! :-)
*UPDATE* Sadly my relationship with Ian is now over and I am single again - this might mean I won't be able to host visitors, but please ask!

PHILOSOPHY

You are as old as you feel. We think age is no barrier to anything - the only barriers are the ones you make and put around yourself. Young people are just like middle aged and older people they are all capable of wonderful generosity and are happiest when they are sharing and helping others. Hence why the ethos of couchsurfing fits our own so well.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We joined on recommendation of Iain Purdie who is travelling the world. It seemed the perfect solution because we said, when we were camping in Northern portugal and when we were sleeping on girona airport,"wouldn't it be great to have some of these people around us, to stay with us and we could show them the lovely area that we live in" We said the same again at the music festival.
We also thought what a great way to keep accommodation costs down when doing long distance walks and holidaying ourselves. Then Iain Purdie said "You heard of couchsurfing ?" and we hadn't.So that's why and how it came about :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hadn't slept wild and rough much until i met Ian but he is no stranger to floors and couches. Together we have slept in some luxurious beds but the most amazing nights have been on hard ground, soft heather, sand and lakeside grass. As the weather gets colder - couches and spare floor or bed space sounds ideal. :)

Intereses

I enjoy reading, crafts, making greetings cards and the internet. Also interested in behavourial sciences and child behaviour in particular,
Both into outdoor stuff - walking cycling swimming - woodlands and especially mountains and coastlines. Interested in birds and wildlife. He has been a very green person having been in friends of the Earth for years. I am learning fast. We think with concerted effort people can help the earth regenerate itself and cope with our demands upon it. He is a good cook, shops with panache on a budget, is knowledgeable about nutrition and eating your way to health and collects food for free. Both enjoy massage - both giving and receiving - oh and a foot massage after a hard day's walking mmmmm.

Música, películas y libros

I am a Neil Diamond fan, Meatloaf, Shawn Colvin , Don MacLean,Carol King, James Taylor, Robbie Williams, most 60s and 70s music (old enough and lucky enough to remember it first time round!), love folk, soul and most other music. Best "live" music I heard recently was a group of fishermen singing sea shanties on the harbour in Port Isaac, Cornwall, UK.
He likes folk and rock music - favourite bands Show of Hands, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Lehrer Jake Thackeray, Gilbert O' Sullivan - God he says "i feel old now ha ha"
Books - the 2 books from Coast the TV series are his current favourites.I like biographies and contemporary fiction and books about travel.His all time favourite is John Wyatt's Shining Levels - about his early life as a woodsman and becoming first ever head warden of the Lake District National park - the section when he describes different woodsmoke smells is sooo lovely. I enjoy growing up trauma books too. Films - his favourite is Local hero. Mine is Love Story!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Both made 2 wonderful human beings with our exes. Seen them grow into funny rounded loving people.
Skinnydipped in cool rivers. Left intertwined footprints on deserted beaches, washed under waterfalls, camped in the wilderness. Seen the lake district in all its innumerable moods. Many more amazing things to do..

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Teach 1. How to budget and live on virtually nothing 2 All about what to do and see in the lake District - including guiding you on a walk if you want that.
3 Nutrition and eating for taste and health - still for next to nothing!
4 English too i guess
We want to learn more about Portugal, France, Germany and all the new European countries plus about the cultures,language foods, music of other countries.
Share what lessons we have learned and have others enrich our lives by their presence, talents and laughter.
*Update - we have just had a lesson in kindness, generosity and trust from the four people we couch surfed with during our recent three weeks travelling in Portugal. Their local knowledge was amazing and more so their desire to share it with us! Thank you to you all - you know who you are!*
