About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Striving for mediocrity!
ABOUT ME
I lived in California for most of the past ten years and moving to DC area was a bit of a shock. Creating MeetUp groups in art ("Unique Perspectives") and sign language/music have really helped me make a great group of friends in the DC Metro area.
PHILOSOPHY
"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host activities in my home and make sure it is available if anyone needs to crash with me when they're coming in from out of town.
I'd like to host and travel more often, showing visitors my home, and getting to see new places through the eyes of my hosts.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My husband, Kevin and I couchsurfed in San Francisco and New York (Yonkers) and it was awesome getting to meet new friends and see new parts of the country. I am new to the CS community and can't wait to meet some travelers.
We've hosted people from Argentina, Finland, and the US so far and hope to be more available to host again soon.
Interests
Spending time with friends in person, kayaking, boogie boarding, caving, climbing, American Sign Language, fireflies, hiking, collaborative art, drawing, painting, photography, muppets, signing, singing, doing nothing at all, writing, reading a wide variety of books on my Blackberry while warm under the covers after dark.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like a mixture of music from folk-rock to techno. If it has a beat or a clear melody, I'll probably like it.
In terms of movies and books, I usually go for imaginative fiction and documentaries. Some of my favorites are The Princess Bride, Gattaca, What Dreams May Come, Fight Club, and The Shawshank Redemption.
I don't watch much television. When I do, I like long series that have a good on-going story, like Dollhouse, Firefly, Grey's Anatomy, House, Lost (though I'm very behind), etc.
Lately, I've been fond of the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" as it's short (20 minutes) and geek-culture silly.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I came in second out of two in a whitewater kayak slalom race. Spending the entire race underwater when I overturned my boat resulted in the fastest time, and the lowest score, of anyone else in the competition. I still got a medal.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a fluent signer and I can teach you how to do a sloppy watercolor painting - why strive for perfection when you can strive for mediocrity?
