Music, Movies, and Books
My musical tastes are broad and eclectic: grew up on oldies rock, learned to like modern country from living in the American South, got into alternative in the '90s, sca, swing, then indy; now I don't keep up enough but enjoy what others play for me. I'm a Martin Scorsese fan, but tend to watch more TV series and just try to see the stuff that wins Emmys; in TV I like Aaron Sorkin, period pieces, etc. In fiction I'm a big Patrick O'Brien fan, enjoy Bernard Cornwell (though he gets formulaic), recently really liked James Howard Kuntsler's World Made By Hand books, like Tony Hillerman, Denis Lehane (outside the really formulaic detective series). In nonfiction I really enjoy Nathaniel Philbrick, Michael Pollan, John Demos, Angelo Codvela, Jane Jacobs...
