I'm not interested in people who "just love culture" and want to "meet REAL people" or "are fans of food" and "love to laugh" because I think those are all pretty asinine and vague things to claim, because everybody likes laughing and food and people.

Was reading a lot of late 20th/21st century American playwrights before I left the states. Suzan Lori-Parks, Ed Bullins, Adrienne Kennedy, August Wilson. Also, big Jhumpa Lahiri fan lately. Game of Thrones for sure.
