About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see the world by bicycle, the best way to travel. It's nice and slow and gives the chance to meet people. There are so many good people in this world, though most of the time we only hear about the bad ones, a shame.
ABOUT ME
"Growth means change and
change involves risk,
stepping from the known to the unknown."
For 27 years I worked in IT, for 19 years I had the same partner and for all my life I had good health.
Within the space of a week I lost my job, split up with my partner and had a heart operation.
I saw the chance in all this and decided to take a step into the unknown: In May 2007 I left for a long bicycle trip.
A journey that I thought might only last 2 months and take me as far as the Alps has so far lasted 2 years and taken me more than half way around the world.
And I have never regretted the step into the unknown.
PHILOSOPHY
Strive towards yon aour dream, anything is possible, then live your dream, but remember every journey starts with one small step.
Nothing in life is so exciting that I cannot fall asleep through it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I hope to return my hosts' hospitality by sharing experiences, philosophies and visions.
However short our encounter might be hopefully we can help each other learn and grow.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
1. My "Spaghetti Spinacci Funghi" are generally greatly appreciated - as are my dishwashing skills.
2. It generally takes more than one day to really get to know and understand each other.
3. I have learnt that people are generally good - I am often overwhelmed by their generosity.
Interests
Cycling and travel (You would never have guessed that from an around the world cyclist, would you?)
Bellringing (In case you were wondering: This has nothing to do with being a dead ringer, more to do with waking the dead on a Sunday morning.)
Chess (Yes, I am a boring old fart!)

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies are great to fall asleep through. I like folk rock music along with many other genres and as for book I generally read non fiction, but on this journey I have swapped books to make me read books I would never normally choose and I have been pleasantly surprised by some of the books I would never normally have read. From that category The Alchemist has made the biggest impression on me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I suppose it would have to be cycling from England to Australia.
Teach, Learn, Share
1. I am a terrible English teacher.
2. I am a terrible teacher in general.
3. That said: At least I can prepare pretty decent spaghetti spinacci.
4. The more I think about it: I think I am a good listener. And some things sort themselves out by just talking about them.
5. And if you have always thought that a boring old fart living a boring normal life could ever turn into a full time traveller cycling around the world I am living proof that it can be achieved.
Every host is part of their culture and part of their country. Getting to know my host for me means learning and understanding about the culture and country I am in.
Every host has their own experiences, philosophy and dreams. Getting to know them gives me food for thought and growth.
And some hosts might even have better pasta recipes to share....
