About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To know and honor God more and more each day with humility, compassion and self-discipline.

ABOUT ME
I'm a Christian, vegetarian, minimalist dude with a hankerin' for new experiences and adventure. I was a nutritionist for fifteen years. At the moment I'm gearing up to start a new grad program in international development Project Evaluation at American University. I could not be happier about this.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a lot happier and more productive when I realize it's not about me. I re-learn this daily.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm not traveling, I'm happy to host travelers in my apartment in suburban Silver Spring, MD.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've enjoyed all my CouchSurfing--many unforgettable experiences--during my cross-country bike trip between July and September 2011 and have mostly hosted travelers since then.

Interests

Faith, international development, running, cycling, travel, reading (anything), film, writing, environmental issues, moderate politics.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can't read enough and a friend and I once watched seven movie theater films in a day. For fun.

Hard to be specific but I'll try: Love historical fiction, good fiction of any kind, science fiction, psychological thrillers. Recently blown away by City of Thieves (siege of Leningrad), The Martian (off-world involuntary homesteading) by Andy Weir and The Innocent Man (true crime) by John Grisham.

Favorite films: Star Wars (IV-VII), Thank You for Smoking, The Descent, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End, Frailty, Signs, The Beaver. Too many good films to name.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've stayed with many wonderful, generous Couch Surfing hosts and had nothing but great experiences. I've jumped out of a perfectly good airplane. Last year I biked from Barcelona, through the Pyrenees and into southern France.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to get really good at bike maintenance and repair. Getting into weight lifting, running longer distances and eating well and sustainably. Teaching myself bookkeeping to be more of an asset to my current employer. I'm also learning Spanish since I expect my next career should involve a fair amount of travel. I haven't CouchSurfed in a little while and really want to remedy that! I'd like to meet people from all over the world and get their perspectives on stuff.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I mostly just want to learn what other people are about. Everyone I've met has interesting stories and I love to hear them. I believe in trying hard to learn what my host considers a good CouchSurfing experience and providing that. I'm so humbled that someone will even briefly share their life and living space that I want to go out of my way to respect my host and their home.
