About Me

I'm curious about EVERYTHING. My short-term goal is to learn enough Spanish to apply for a Master in Translation. My mid-term goal is to build myself a tiny house on wheels. My lifelong goal is to explore the world and have adventures. I am open to everything. I don't want to die full of regrets.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I LOVE meeting new people around the world and share travellers' tales, especially the people that I meet here on CS, while hitchhiking, wwoofing, or backpacking. I also love cooking for others, sharing and learning useless trivia, and teaching languages. I also think CouchSurfing is the best way to discover a place with a local, like a local. I hope one day I can give back to the community and become a host myself, hopefully in a lovely tiny house on wheels !

Interests

There is a day wasted that I didn't learn something. More specifically, I LOVE learning about languages and the history of languages, linguistics, and how to better teach languages. I also try to stay up to date about cosmology, technology and politics. I love getting educated about the mysteries of our universe and of our brains. I love listening to music, reading a good book with a cup of tea, being by myself in nature, having adventures, and learning about how things came to be what they are.
My favourite playground is in the wilderness : I've been practicing rock-climbing, rowing, kayaking, long-distance trail running, snorkeling, snowboarding, bike riding and trekking for a long time, but I would love to learn other outdoors sports such as surfing, parasailing, deep-sea diving, wingsuit flying, etc. I've also practiced the slackline and have sailed a boat a few times but would like to practice MORE !

Music, Movies, and Books

The list of media I like to consume is long and not exhaustive. To sum up I like all things that appeal to my imagination, that teach me something, or relate to a particular emotion. Good art, in my humble opinion, is art that can connect with something deep within us, that challenges our viewpoint, and that leaves us somehow different after we experienced it. And if it also manages to make us laugh on top of that it truly is great art.

Books that left a mark :

Mostly fantasy and sci-fi, absolutely everything by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hithchiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy of five, A Song of Ice and Fire, all Philip K. Dick, The Martian Chronicles, Howl's Moving Castle trilogy, Bernard Werber, La trilogie des elfes, dystopian novels, The Hunger Games, Jules Vernes, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials trilogy, Lovecraft, All Edgar Allan Poe, Brave New World, Farenheit 451, World War Z, The Trial, travelogues like The Alchemist, All Bill Bryson; Life of Pi, Belle du Seigneur, Le Petit Prince, the Millenium trilogy; comics by Joann Sfar, Moebius, Jodorowsky, and Olivier Ledroit

Movies and TV Series that got me on the edge of my seat :

The Lord of the Rings, The Fountain, The Labyrinth of Pan, Serenity, All Hayao Miyazaki, Game of Thrones, Firefly, Black Mirror, Westworld, the Indiana Jones trilogy, Hanna

Comedies that knocked me off my socks : The Princess Bride, All Monty Python, Simon Pegg + Nick Frost, Arrested Development, How I Met Your Mother, The IT Crowd, Black Books...

Music that makes me feel alive :

Electro-indus, EBM, Dubstep, DnB, Indie Rock, Industrial, Dark Wave, Goth Rock, Heavenly Voices, World Mystic, Female songwriters, Eastern Folk, Electro, Electro-House, French Hardcore, Movie Soundtracks, Metal(s)...

Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, OhGr, Punish Yourself, Frontline Assembly, Skinny Puppy, :wumpscut: , Alec Empire, Prodigy, Stellamara, Black Sun Empire, Muse, Queen, Puscifer, Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard, System of a Down, Teenage Bad Girl, Chrispy, Emika, The Bloody Beetroots, Modwheelmood, Bauhaus, Tweaker, How to Destroy Angels, Daft Punk, Apocalyptica, Rasputina, Sia, Alanis Morissette, Camille, Tool, Mindless Self Indulgence, Lofofora, Kraftwerk, Florence + the Machine, Sigur Rós...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love trying new things !

- learnt how to surf for my 30th birthday
- learnt how to sail a catamaran and spent a month sailing and snorkeling along the Great Barrier Reef
- celebrated my 29th birthday 2000 meters in the air parasailing for the first time above the Causse Noir
- run my first triathlon, 33 kms running, biking and kayaking in the mountains around Millau with a girl I just met and we completed it ! We were the last at the finish line, had lots of misadventures and almost died but we finished it!

- hitchhiked my way across Iceland, New Zealand, France and Australia's East Coast and met a ton of inspiring people !
- stripped it all and lived for the first time in a naturist camp with a friend I hadn't seen in ten years ! The atmosphere there was so relaxed and I didn't want to put my clothes back on ever !
- completed my first semi-marathon in less than 2h this year!

- climbed my first 2K summit with a friend I had just bumped into while hitchhiking in the Southern Alps, NZ. It was steep and tough but the reward at the end was so worth it ! Seeing the glaciers and waterfalls and being on top of all the other snowcapped mountains ! The joy was so intense and better than any high ! I want to do it higher again next time !
- summitted and surfed down a volcano, not just any volcano but Mt Ngauruhoe aka Mt Doom from The Lord of the Rings, my favourite movie ever ! Well Frodo and Sam had it tough !
- went spelunking in a glowworm cave ! It was so surreal it looked like the starry night or like the sun between the tree leaves !
- built a tiny house on wheels for a new kiwi family and learned about building my dream house
- snorkelled in the cold blue Icelandic waters between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates !
- saw for the first time the elusive and magical northern lights ! Not once but three nights in a week !
