À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Beginning October 1st, I'm embarking on a two and a half month tour of the US. I'll be playing solo acoustic shows and catching up with old friends.

ABOUT ME

I'm calm and laid back most of the time, but not quiet. I thrive on good conversation and people with deep interests and opinions. I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to work and music, but I also enjoy the base pleasures of drinking, rabble rousing, and night swimming. I'm always willing to listen to a friend in need and help out how I can. I'm a complete music nerd (some would say total hater, I can't help it!). I take my time with everything and try not to sweat the small stuff. Life's too short!

PHILOSOPHY

Have fun, don't push to hard, and get good at something!

Centres d'intérêt

When I'm not working I put most of my time into music. I write, record and release my own records, booking shows and tours as well. Some of the best highs I've felt are built on musical communication, when everyone locks together and creates something powerful and unstoppable, lifting you up off the ground for a few minutes. I'm a decent guitarist but I do my best to play bass, drums, keys, mandolin, and other instruments. I love digging around shops for old records and keeping up with the new musicians I enjoy. I had an internet radio show in Asheville, NC for a few years and that was a great joy as well.

I'm a darts player. For many years I competed in the Western NC league and helped my team maintain an undefeated season. Simple camaraderie through competition is a beautiful thing.

I love to cook. Preparing a meal is both artistic and practical, necessary and indulgent. My specialty is working with what's already there. Finding unlikely ingredients around the kitchen and forging them into a cohesive meal. I'm told I get this from my grandmother.

Currently I'm booking a fall tour throughout the United States. I plan on traveling alone and playing as many cities as possible. I hope this site will help me meet some like minded artists and musicians!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: Leonard Cohen, Ty Segall, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Skeletons, Dylan, Springsteen, The Stones, Thin Lizzy, Townes Van Zandt, field recordings, Lightnin' Hopkins, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Stooges, New York Dolls, music from the 20's-30's, old Cajun music, cheesy classic rock, Gram Parsons, Gene Clark, good country, 60's soul, 90's Indie, I could go on. I like a lot of the psych-garage stuff that's coming out now too.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Some years ago a group of friends and I went hiking along the trails of Amelia Island, Florida. The path began in a swampy maritime jungle and slowly thinned out onto the beach. I became separated from everyone else. After walking through the dense forest of Spanish moss, gnarled trees and scuttling armadillos, the vegetation cleared a little and sand dunes stretched out tall and steady, dotted with palm trees and leading to the shore. I ran up to the top of the tallest one and surveyed the land in the light of the afternoon sun. In one direction the forest looked impenetrable, deep and green. In the other direction I could see the ocean, open and shinning. There were large ships on the water and the sand was very white. I've always had a deep affection for the sea and I grew up in the woods, so to see them together in this context brought me new insights into well, life I guess. It was a very simple day but it sticks with me. I also later found a sand dollar.

There was another instance in Ecuador where we were backpacking in the Andes and off from our original course. It's big country down there and we hoped for days to find a ride back to civilization. Eventually we came across a couple guys out with their families on a picnic. They were using company vehicles, which I'm pretty sure was a no no. I guess they felt guilty because they gave us a lift to the closest town. What a great ride. Sitting in the bed of a pickup on top of our backpacks, we rode through the steep mountain roads, seeing all the forests and lava rock formations in the valleys below. Little kids were hopping on the back fender and laughing. We even rode through one of those strange religious festivals, with dancers and the Virgin Mary hoisted up in her glass box and guys dressed like bears. Later on we payed a tour bus $60 to take us back to Quito. Good times.
