One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I watched an amazing scenary on a safari trip to Chobe, Botswana; parking on the other side of a river, we first witnessed a group of hippos play with a dead impala they had stolen from a pack of wild dogs standing on the river bank (so though hippos are said to be herbivores they surely munched on that impala). Then a hyena approaches the battlefield but draw back as soon as it discovered the big pack of wild dogs. Suddenly an(other) impala appeared from the bushes followed by some of the wild dogs- and we watched the impala run for dear life along the river bank till it disappeared in the bushes with all the dogs at it's heels. In the meantime a beautiful female leopard entered the seen- it's sat next to a tree, waiting patiently for the hippos to give up their toy. But as soon as the dogs returned (without any impala) the leaopard hurried to get back to the bushes- unfortunately some dogs spotted the leopard and chased it till it excaped to a tree just behind the front stage; ready to observe the rest of the play :) Then some of the dogs left for a while and others settled down back at the river bank (I bet a bit exchausted after two unsuccessful hunt attemps). And just as we thought that the play was over a third (male) impala appeared from the bushes- followed by the dogs and sprinting along the river side. Luckily this time it chose to turn around as it reached the limit of the stage and ran towards the center of the stage. The dogs were now just about to catch their lunch as the impala jumps into the river. Then we witnessed the most spectacular scene; the hippos assaulted the impala in their attempt to help it to the other side (may be my romantic version)- and finally the impala reached the other side (where we're parking) and rose to it's feet (!) though bleeding a bit, limping past the car and into the bushes. The dogs standing on the other side, watching their lunch walk away.. Then we decided that the morning play was over and drove a bit futher down the river side to have our tea break. And guess what, now a fourth (male) impala were chased by the same wild dogs just on the other side of our new spot. This impala also chose the river rather than the dogs and faught its way to the other side. (Luckily) there're no hippos to help it at this place so it almost reached the bank where we're standing. BUT! A crocodile was hiding here, and snap! the impala was taken by the crocodile into the water- gone for at least some hours (2 sec act). On the other side, the dogs depressed after their fourth failed hunting attempt.
The right place at the right time :)
