About Me

So! I'm back!!

I've been "away" from CS for almost 4 years now, and I find many things have changed, but not the spirit of it. I'd like to couchsurf on my way back to Mexico, where I plan to settle down for a while and start hosting as soon as I can :-).

I lived in Australia for 2.5 years and shared flats with people who were super nice but not open to hosting couchsurfers, so I missed that big part of the CS experience I really like. Then I spent 15 months in New Zealand, living in hostels and working in all kinds of random things. It has been one of the most complex and important life experiences I've had (a couple of negatives, a bag full of positives).

Travel has expanded my sense of self, and couchsurfing specially taught me lessons of kindness, openness and fraternity in a way that I would've probably never had outside of it.

I am now on a mission to remake parts of my life into a less complicated iteration and embrace life as it comes. As I have now a medical condition that limits my speech range, I can only whisper for the time being, but it compensates by creating suspense and making it seem like I'm saying something super important haha.

I can seem serious at first approach, but actually have a silly nonsensical off-beat sense of humor. As I like so many different things and hang out with a diversity of friends, most probably we will find something in common. I am very curious about people and ideas, so I may ask you a lot of questions about the place you come from and life in general :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After being part of Servas and HospitalityClub (more than 10 years ago) I was humbled by the warm and genuine hospitality of hosts in many countries, back when the Internet wasn't as pervasive in our lives.

I was particularly influenced by a very generous couple in Budapest, who didn't have much and yet they shared everything (with me and previous travelers). I ended up joining CS as it was growing in popularity and it was a great decision. From Svalvard to Ushuaia, I've met lots of people, some of which are good friends now (and meeting again elsewhere is always such a hoot). I love hosting and surfing as it is always the promise of a rewarding experience. Doing CS is very likely a guarantee of very specific memories, situations and talks that you would hardly come across (or even remember!) if you just stayed at a regular paid accommodation.

I try to have a coffee at least, when hosting is not possible, or even a quick meet in town.

Interests

People and their ideas, music, art, books, travel, politics, comedy, nature, small things, big problems, silly dances, and lazy evenings with a good drink and company.

I'm currently focused on understanding and working in the 2030 Sustainable Goals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to list, and tastes change/expand from time to time. As a snapshot, I keep loving books by Margaret Atwood and Jonathan Safran Foer. The music of Radiohead, Neko Case and David Bowie. All kinds of films, from superhero franchises to arthouse indies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've survived so far!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you lots of real stuff (or just the basics, I'm not going to bore you to death) about my country and its language, its food and customs, its people and their dreams. What's true and what's not so much about what you hear in the news about it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good talk and a fiery guacamole.
