Overview
About Me
I grew up in Singapore, but I spent a long time in the U.S. I'm a Third Culture Kid who is comfortable with his lack of place. Home is where my friends are--so Facebook, currently!
I deeply value learning, wisdom, and personal growth.
I value close relationships, and a tight-knit community; I value trust, mutual acceptance, respect, understanding and support.
I love adventuring and vagabonding, and the thrills and stories that the experience produces. I like the narrow alleys, the nooks, the behind-the-scenes. I have a very high tolerance for dirt, sweat, uncertainty and discomfort.
My friends say I am laid-back and easy going. I think so! :)
(Also, to prospective hosts: neat, friendly and respectful!)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For a different perspective, breaking away from the plastic sheen of Lonely Planet. Getting out of the landmarks, and into the grit. Exploring the world through people, cracking open the variety of 7 billion. Because of the stories that come out of the experiences.
Interests
I love deep existential conversations about the meaning of life. I also do graphics design. I really enjoy UrbanEx, which is basically mucking around abandoned/off-limit places in the city. I bike a lot!

Music, Movies, and Books
I like works that allow me to see things differently, or to see something different. For fiction, that's SciFi or fantasy, or historical pieces. Terry Pratchett, Ender's Game, Douglas Adams, and so on. For non-fiction, sociology, psychology, philosophy--subjects that study how we exist in the world.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Bicycling 8600km from Singapore to Beijing. I was stopped by a police officer in Thailand, who gave me (indirectly) an impromptu foot massage.
- Working in a village in rural Sierra Leone for 11 weeks.
- Working in a social enterprise in Guatemala, which then promptly collapsed. It's not my fault, I swear!
- Seeing the sunrise over the Amazon River (from the plane).
- Trying to hitchhike across America and getting stuck in bloody Syracuse, NY.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Conversations about the Meaning of Life, both the philosophical concept and the Monty Python movie.
Endless curiosity (and thus, easily distracted).
A slice of my conventional unconventional life.
