About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To keep the stone rolling...
ABOUT ME
I'm Maile. I used to live in China. Then, I lived in Hawaii, which is where I grew up. Then I moved to New York, and then Paris, and now I'm back in China. I work. I play. I cook. Life is grand.
PHILOSOPHY
Life's not that scary.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Happy to offer a word of advice, or an eager ear for a story.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Alas, this is my first formal CouchSurfing effort, but throughout my short adult life, many have offered me hospitality, in shape of couch, floor, meal and company, and I'm keen to return the karmic favor.
Interests
Talking, reading, writing, arguing, drinking dark beer, learning languages, thinking, yoga, eating pizza, taking photos...the usual jetset hipster stuff...

Music, Movies, and Books
Henry Miller, Wong Kar-Wai, Zhang Yimou (pre-Zhang Ziyi), the New York Times, the Economist, la Liberation, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Danny Boyle (but not the Beach), Irvine Welsh, Morphine (the band), Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Django Reinhardt...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I touched a tiger. A real one. It was a mostly domesticized one that had never tasted the sweet rush of a live kill, but still, it was HUGE.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to bargain in a Chinese market. I can also explain the four tones in Mandarin. I can show you the best place to get a tofu sandwich in Hawaii.
