ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty chatty guy, but I can be silent too. Sometimes I wish I was more silent. At the moment I'm loving the city. I used to be a big Nature nut, and I still really appreciate the mountains and all that jazz, but currently I'm preoccupied with the bustle of many. I think it comes from my love of art and film etc. It's just so easy to participate in this lifestyle when living in a metropolis.

Lately, I've been focusing on food security and I started an Urban Farming Business called Grand Trunk Veggies grandtrunkveggies.com. It's taken a ton of time, but it's really positive to see people engage in local food, and realize the power of local food.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Please know, I would like help on my farm if you want to surf here. I know this is not a WWOFing site, but I am super busy with the farm and any help helps. If you want to stay here, this is a great way to earn your stay. Don't take that as harsh. I want farming to be as loving as possible. I'm just crazy crazy busy and want all the help I can have. Thanks.

On and off. When there are requests I try very hard to take them. Sometimes though there aren't requests for a while, and then I'm left surferless in my house.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had numerous wonderful surfers ride through my door. I joined this site years ago but never used it because I had no photos of myself. I own no camera, and so all the photos people took of me usually fell into the category of embarrassing.

Surfers I've enjoyed? The ones who come to Calgary and don't run right away. This is key because Calgary seems so boring, but I love the one who come and explore the intricacies of the City. It isn't Berlin, but I still love it.
I also love the surfers that want to speak their native language with you, and aren't super impatient, or at least don't show it.

Interests

I love skiing. I love it. I love deep snow, cold and white, pillowing all over you as you rip through it. You look back and see your ephemeral dent on Mother Nature; it's a much nicer dent than the one caused by my car.

I love reading. I love writing. I love potlucks. I love speaking German. I love the energy that urges you to do something new.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about books. But mostly I hope that I can teach people how to be cynical about the world around us. This cynicism often results in what I believe to be the funniest humor. Lastly I can teach people how to pack very lightly and travel with soft feet.

Here's the deal about surfing with me right now. I'm running this farm and it occupies all my time. If you want to surf with me, I really encourage you to help me for a few hours on the urban farm. You will learn something and I will be happy that you kept me on pace with the race that farming is.
If you are unwilling to help, I'm unlikely to feel the need to host ya. Sorry, it's just where I'm at right now.
