ABOUT ME
I am a grandfather ,a prospector, a Toastmaster and a traveler. I fix my own cars and am a self taught mechanic
I also volunteer at our local Habitat For Humanity store
and have joined the University debate club for a new intellectual experience.
PHILOSOPHY
Sharing and teaching are pleasures that should be free. If I am not generous with sharing my hard won knowledge by helping others, I will die with that knowledge but the knowledge will die with me. The best reward is teaching someone, and receiving a gift of them teaching you in exchange.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
This summer my wife and I made many new friends. We provided the kitchen, and I showed several beginners how to cook a great meal in a strange kitchen for a group quickly and simply. Several first class chefs taught me some new things as well. I have a retired but comfortable VW van that had lots of use. Wow guests sleeping peacefully for 12 straight hours.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Often I will pick up a back packing hitch hiker travelling through and offer them a shower and a safe place to camp in my back yard. I have met some very fascinating people. Most people we hosted are warm, wonder filled, exemplary guests that we would enjoy having again. It has been great for our marriage as my wife absolutely glows when couch surfers share their lives with us.
Interests
Prospecting for gold/silver etc. Public speaking, good music, quiet conversations with friends, seeing new places that are not tourist traps. I intensely dislike staying in far overpriced accommodations.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy Robert Service and other great poets. Well written Science Fiction, and true historical accounts. Most TV is boring
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I sat in awe one night on a mountaintop and watched the Northern lights dance at my feet. So brilliant you could read by them, So loud I could hear them hiss and crackle, So close I will never forget what they smell like.
One very hot August night I had a set of fins and a wet suit top on. I was far from shore and met a large adult beaver nose to nose. I do not know who got the biggest surprise.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a long term Toastmaster as well I have several generations of placer mining knowledge . My mechanical knowledge is not perfect however it is extensive. I am learning just how difficult debate judging is .
