About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet other independant travellers especially touring cyclists.

ABOUT ME

I'm a married 40-something man with two young sons. Ann-Charlotte, my wife, is a German lady with a Swedish mum. We both enjoy cycle touring and tandeming especially rallies with the UK Tandem Club. Our lads are fair cyclists themselves and can cover useful distances on their Islabikes. It is through cycle touring that we've come into mutual put-me up schemes as a means of meeting local people and making the holiday money go further.

PHILOSOPHY

A little and often makes the fire burn brightest.
Keep all your options open.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We host and sometimes we couchsurf.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a beginner in Couch Surfing. As touring cyclists, my wife and I offer hospitality through the CTC hospitality scheme and Warmshowers.org. We've stayed with hosts in the ADFC Dachgeber scheme in Germany [very good] and Warmshowers [outstanding]. We met Peter van Glabbeek in Utrecht through Warmshowers and he told us about Couchsurfing especially with families as a solution to the £100 overnight charges in international youth hostels that we've been facing as a family of four.
We enjoy hosting couchsurfers and offering the friendly, fun stay that you can't get in other sorts of accommodation! Making new friends is so important.

Music, Movies, and Books

I think I like Englynion - something deep down from having to learn and recite one each week in primary school to win house points.

Y Ci Defaid

Rhwydd gamwr hawdd ei gymell -- i'r mynydd
A'r mannau anghysbell;
Hel a didol diadell
Yw camp hwn yn y cwm pell.

---Thomas Richards

[A fast strider, his coercion easy -- to the mountain
And the remote places;
To gather a scattered flock
Is an achievement in the far valley. ]

Aubery / Maturin Sea novels by Patrick O'Brian are wonderful as is the film Master and Commander : On the far side of the world.
Films:-
Amelie
O Brother Where Art Thou?
Italiensk for begynnere
Palle the Conqueror
Hedd Wyn
The Shawshank Redemption.

Musically speaking , anything performed well and with passion is great. Definite exceptions are to Rap, Chinese Opera and most forms of Country and Western!
I love Folk and roots music from the British isles. Show of Hands are a real favourite. Down home Blues is a lurking passion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being there when our sons were born.
Riding over the Hirnant pass with my family from Lake Vyrnwy and descending into my home valley and into Rhos-y-Gwaliau where I grew up.
Any mountain summit in clear sparkling weather - just the best places to be!

Countries I’ve Visited
