About Me

Hello there!

I'm in love with technology and nature at the same time. I was born in the high mountains of Colombia but soon flew to learn languages and dream about a more nomadic life. I'm a digital journalist and right now work as Product Owner for media groups, but also like to freelance a lot for digital PR and marketing.

Here's a little recap of my nomad story:

I moved to Brazil by myself to finish my journalism degree, my first time alone in another country and planned to be only six months but I ended up staying for two years. I travelled so much throughout the country and made so many dear friends that when I left it felt like a little part of me was brazilian too.

Life and work took me back to my homeland for a while, the lovely arepa-land (Colombia). There I lived in Bogotá for a while and then moved to Medellín where I spent the happiest six months ever! (if you need tips about the city, let me know). The eternal spring weather there lifted my spirit and left me wanting more of it.

But much as I liked my little place in the lusty-green Envigado Frontera, work let me move again. That's how I ended up living 15min walk away from South Beach sands, where I lived for two years.

I've been back to Bogotá since a little bit before the Covid Pandemic started. Nesting for a bit at a cozy home has been very nice, but I'm already looking forward to my next adventure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ever since I started to travel alone for the sake of adventures and mini-lives away from the places I've known, I've been surfing with friends of friends, building -sometimes without even noticing- what now is my own little travel network. On the way I also got to know the CS community and started using the platform to meet people on my trips.

It's always been kinda natural for me to be open with strangers. I love to meet new people, hear their stories, know about their culture, cook and eat with them. So Couchsurfing has been a perfect way of meeting kindred spirits with whom I've built great friendships (that's happened for me already on CS) or had fun experiences while travelling.

I've also hosted through Couchsurfing whenever it's been possible, on and off the platform. I've had fun times showing travelers around and sharing as much free time I can to make them feel welcome. Now that I'm working remotely from my house in Bogotá, I have a lot of time and energy to host :)

Inside and out of CS I'm always looking to meet passionate and free spirited people. For a couch, for a walk, for a swim, for a talk, for a drink...

:)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On my last trip to Europe I visited my sister who moved to Italy and is now a Franciscan nun. We are completely different now and our separation has been hard for me, since we used to be very close. That visit was amazing, to stay with her in the abby (I can show you the pictures later, amazing sicilian landscape and people) and connecting with her again. It led me to write a totally new chapter of my life, as I let go of the story I had planned for both of us.

On a different note, this is something I already did once and although I wouldn't call it something "amazing" to do, it had a lasting effect on me:

I once spent four months without a cellphone. I lost it at an airport and then decided to go without it for a while. For a digital geek like me, that was like a time travel. Sometimes I went out taking only my keys, money and ID (I still love to do that). And there were days I didn't even know the time, since I don't usually wear a watch. People looked amazed that I would be so calm being so disconnected. But I really enjoyed it! I was suddenly more aware of my surroundings and could enjoy so much more the little things. It surprised me that I didn't get bored, turns out I'm a curious observer of people, places and nature.

It was an great little experience, specially when I was meeting friends or going to a place I'm not that familiar with (I traveled to Rio de Janeiro alone without a cellphone). When I eventually got a new phone again, my relationship completely changed. It's not longer a bad thing if I leave it back home by mistake.

You should try it (at least for a couple days) if you've ever felt like you can't live without your phone and that feeling isn't really a comfortable thing for you :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

--- WHAT I CAN SHARE WITH SURFERS IN MIAMI ---

If I meet you through CS on this trip I would love to share with you stories about where I come from. If South America is a dream destination for you and you need tips or have questions about the countries I've visited or lived in let me know! I love sharing travel hacks and tips about beautiful places to visit.

I loove to cook and have a passionate love affair with whole, natural and yummy foods. My boyfriend also loves food and is a great bbq player, so If that is something we have in common with you don't hesitate to ask me to share a meal with you (you can join in with some wine or drinks or dessert!) :)

I'd love to learn a bit of your language if it's not one I speak already, and would love to share a bit of spanish or portuguese if those interest you.
