About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore this beautiful planet!

ABOUT ME

At the end of September I'm quitting my job and taking to the road, very excited to meet all of you beautiful shiny souls, talk to you, hike around with you, and do whatever we do!

I love to dance, yoga, acroyoga, hike/camp (of course, nature is the best!), cook and eat, live, love, read, drink tea, try to scratch out some noise on my violin (it's not a skill yet, just a practice), meet groovy people, learn new things, expand my consciousness, travel, party!

PHILOSOPHY

Let's start with religion, because this is relevant to my philosophy (which is still very much in development) - Atoms are constantly being shed from our bodies, we are constantly pouring our physical forms back into the universe/onto this planet. Those atoms go back into the system, they go on to become other things, both inanimate and alive.

I read part of a book awhile back, a story, and in it there was one scene that stood out for me at the time. There was an old woman, named Maya, who was nearing the end of her life n this planet. She (maya) was sitting on the edge of her bed, when a vision of an old deceased friend of hers appeared in front of her. The vision told Maya that Karma did not work the way Maya thought it did.

It is not "put good in, get good out" - It is that whatever lives are available on the planet, you become. We are one with everything, we are a universe cycling through forms, and whatever forms are present here in the future, that's what you'll be.

I agree with this, I think. I feel the oneness, the energetic and obvious/literal connections between everything on earth, and I feel it's true that we reincarnate in at least this one very specific way, on an atomic level, for as long as life of some kind persists on this planet.

I think that's absurdly beautiful, how complex and gorgeous this earth is, and that we go on to experience more and in such a huge variety of different ways… That we have already shed our atoms in cycles, already died in a certain way and gone on to become other things.

So what do I come to if I consider this the truth?

I realize I have a tendency to think of this life in terms of what I can gain - What I can learn, own, have, become. Recently, in the past four months or so (as of mid August, who knows when I'll revise this next) I've shifted this in what feels like a really sweet beautiful way - It's not about what I can gain, I am a servant to this universe - My job is to love and honor her through my words and actions. When I put myself in this role, loving servant, I've noticed my choices become much simpler. It's easy to see the larger impact, and know whether or not a choice is right.

This earth is so, so beautiful. The lives we share with it, plants, animals, fungi and the rest are so, so beautiful. They all (you and I included) deserve all of our love, attention, and energy. We owe this earth our lives, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the friends we have, the atoms that make up our bodies. Showing her our love through our actions and engagements with everything here might be the most important thing we could do with our time here.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
-The Origins of Political Order by Francis Fukuyama
-Anything by Robert Sapolsky. He's a brilliant professor, a primatologist, and a badass motherfucker.
-The Salmon of Doubt by Douglas Adams
-Seeing Nature: Deliberate Encounters with the Visible World by Paul Krafel
-Everything by Joe Sacco, and some things by Chris Hedges. Definitely the book they wrote together, which I think was called "Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt."
-Many many other things, just ordered A People's History of Indigenous People by Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz, and I've been picking my way through "500 years of Indigenous Resistance" by Gord Hill in my off time. (They're awesome! Just discovered Gord Hill, and I love them already.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being born? Breathing? Tripping on acid and seeing the sun set into the ocean for the very first time with my absolute favorite person on this planet? I don't know, I've done a lot of pretty cool stuff.

Teach, Learn, Share

Want to play acroyoga? I'm down. I can show you some stuff. Want someone to check out your posture in yoga? That I can do, too.

Other than that, there aren't many practical skills I can offer you.

I can talk to you!
I can go on hiking and biking adventures with you, but that's not really a skill... Mostly it's just moving your feet and holding on to handlebars. And remembering to pack everything you need. Two lighters are better than one.

What I Can Share with Hosts

See above. I'm lame, sorry.

Countries I’ve Visited
