Overview
About Me
I used to teach English as a foreign language for about 8 years, and recently transitioned to teaching high school English. I was lucky to be a digital nomad for about 5 years prior to covid, and couchsurfed a lot during that time. I love meeting people from around the world and learning languages. :)
CURRENT MISSION
Figuring out where to go for summer break!
PHILOSOPHY
"A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving." Lao Tzu
"Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things -- air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky -- all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it." -- Cesare Pavese
"I saw that my life was a vast empty glowing page and I could do anything I wanted." -- Jack Kerouac
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I hosted for about 2 years and surfed intermittantly for five years as a digital nomad. I love attending Couchsurfing meetups when I run into them, and I have also used the hangouts feature a lot!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It's been amazing. I think Couchsurfing is the greatest avenue one can use to meet interesting, generous, authentic people.
My favorite thing is visiting or reconnecting with people I've hosted or surfed with in the past. I've been lucky to do this several times and it's awesome. :)
Interests
I love learning about everything. My favorite topics: history, biographies, foreign policy, language learning, literary fiction.
I love practicing languages!! :) Thanks to people I've hosted over the years, I can say 'hello' or 'how are you' in many languages!
When I'm traveling I spend entirely too much time in city parks, cathedrals and graveyards. I will chase down the birthplace home and/or grave of literally any author I've ever enjoyed reading. I don't always end up seeing 'the thing' you're supposed to see in a city.
I am obsessed with good food, and the only 'skill' I will admit to having is cooking. I'm vegetarian (mostly vegan). I like reading, writing, board games, parties, old buildings, foxes, the Oxford comma, and witty repartee.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Wes Anderson, A24 films, indie movies, etc.
Shows: I try to watch international shows when I can. I loved "Lupin" from France, and I'm currently watching "Deadwind" from Finland.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I hiked to 4,600 m (15,090 ft) in Peru and swam in a glacier lake at the top! I also got to watch a volcano erupt in Ecuador.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm learning Korean, and I can speak Spanish so I am always happy to get the chance to practice!
Estoy aprendiendo español, entonces me gustaría practicar!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I will be happy to cook a meal and swap travel stories! :)
