Overview
About Me
I am a high school science teacher looking at the next chapter after 26 years in education. Since there is no medal of freedom for my teaching longevity, I was hoping for something better, making the time to see more of the world on a teacher's savings (not much). I have taught internationally for 13 years and in Minnesota for 13 years. We can call it the twist cone career. My current teaching assignment is in Bali, Indonesia. It is definitely everything a tropical volcanic island can offer. I am an avid outdoors person who can appreciate the finer points of a city but desires the treasures of the wilderness.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I think of what makes for a great travel experience, several commonalities come to mind: getting lost with a GPS, finding hidden gems, and meeting people with a story. My brother has been a couch surfer for as long as I can remember. His trips were enhanced with the help of others. My wife (divorced now) would not conceive of the notion that there are good people willing to host us without any expectations. My freedom and lust for adventure and travel have reopened the couch-surfing door. I look forward to meeting new people and having experiences beyond the travel books.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like 80s music, but open to most genres.

I enjoy reading science nerdy stuff.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Despite a severe musical handicap, I learned to play the ukulele during my time in Saudi. I could not play it now, but it taught me that sheer will and determination can override a lack of talent.
