About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Save up to Travel the world and find out what living really means. (Ongoing!)

ABOUT ME

I love sharing experiences. I'd much rather stay at a hostel than a hotel, or couch surf.
My friends all tell me I'm a nice guy, so I'll take that!
I like music and play guitar, drums, bass, sing, and a touch of this and that. I hope to put out a record at some point.
I'm a tattoo enthusiast, love getting inked. A recent development!
Japan and the Japanese language has always fascinated me, but now I'm itching to see other parts of the world!

PHILOSOPHY

I found myself wondering today, drowsy from a night of heavy drinking with friends, what makes me feel alive. Beyond the physical. That feeling of oneness, a connection that you make with a new environment or person. That moment when you can feel the planet humming, this mindfulness that you are a part of a world that you know virtually nothing of but which encompasses everything you are, everything you do, and everything around you.

So why stay in one place?

Learning about this connection, grasping to understand more than what we see normally everyday, looking deeper into ourselves by taking in the universe which surrounds us: a massive pot of life and culture in which we are all ingredients. I want to know what they are.

なるようになるさ。Whatever happens, happens.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently surfing the world, hoping to make it just as amazing an experience as it was when I hosted.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Back in 2011 after the Tsunami hit the Japanese coast line, I housed several people coming in who wanted to go do debris cleanup and volunteering. I myself was working on the coast line doing the same thing, so it was easy for me to say yes.
I had 2 guys come from the US: one was an army medic while the other was a film producer who was working on his own personal documentary. He had never lived in the same place for more than 3 years and had quite some stories to tell. You never know who you'll meet! Since then I've hosted a few people, some of which came back for seconds!

Interests

Music, guitar, drums, bass, whisky, tattoos, the Japanese language, Indian food!
I want to live in a house made of water slides.
Hiking, getting lost in new places.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books- Shantaram, Shogun, The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Movies - Princess Mononoke, Fight Club, Snatch, Breaking Bad!
Music- Too many to list, but if I had to list 10 bands/ artist that I love...
Tool
Rage Against the Machine
Matthewgood(band)
Bonobo
Radiohead
Beck
Daft Punk
A Perfect Circle
Wax Mannequin
Nujabes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I find this to be very subjective, as what may be amazing to me may not be to some.
I hitchhiked around the Island of Kyushu by myself.
Climbed Fuji.
DMZ.
I've met amazing individuals which I'm grateful to for letting me in their lives.

How to recognize if someone is having a stroke.

When someone is having a stroke, they may only exhibit signs of a headache or not feeling well. However, if it seems like more than that to you, test it out. A stroke is easily treatable and avoidable, but if ignored will result in death.

Symptoms include:
SUDDEN numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body.
SUDDEN confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause.

Remember the letters R.T.S.

R-Raise arms
Ask if the person exhibiting ANY of these symptoms to raise both their arms up straight above their heads.
T-Talk
Ask them to form a coherent sentence; for instance, ask about the weather the day before. Listen for slurs or incoherent speech.
S-Smile.
Ask the person to give you a big smile. Look for certain parts of the face to droop/see if they can't give you a full on, ear to ear smile.

If they are unable to do just ONE of these things, call 9-1-1 RIGHT AWAY. Even if they protest, it would be better not to take that chance.
