About Me

Academically, I studied physics, getting a Ph.D. while doing research at CERN (giant particle collider in Switzerland) and am technically an author on the Higgs discovery paper.

Professionally, I've done everything from directing campaign office in 2008 (working to elect Obama to his first term), to serving as a science and nuclear policy adviser to a member of Congress, to now working at MIT (helping scientists and engineers better engage in public policy).

For fun I love being outdoors (hiking, biking, running, ultimate, camping, etc), doing yoga, and occasionally playing board and video games.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I met really cool couchsurfers when I was living in Europe doing my graduate research at CERN. Unfortunately, I've never been able to host, though I have proposed the idea to my roommates a few times and am hoping to eventually talk them into it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like songs that tell vivid and interesting stories or that have great messages. Growing up Ani Difranco was one of my favorites, as an example, but have a wide variety of interests now.

Movies: Tragic love stories (Rent, Moulin Rouge, Chasing Amy, etc.) and terrible cheesy action (Bourne series, Resident Evil, Underworld, etc).

Books: I have the attention span of a small gnat when it comes to reading. It's frustrating.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done lots of random things:
Built, tested, and ran really interesting particle detectors;
Organized students to secure marriage equality for the first state in the U.S. (MA);
Stood behind the governor of NH as he sign the first marriage equality bill;
Been on CSPAN a few times during Congressional hearings (sitting behind my boss);
Biked around the Cape of Corsica;
Hiked to the highest point in the Jura mountains... in the winter... without snow shoes... by myself (ok maybe that one was just dumb).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can answer lots of questions about the U.S. government, physics, nuclear energy, nuclear weapons, and can string together amateur yoga series.
