About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I love and welcome all to Asheville but it's gotten very popular recently so book early. I am not taking any guests until at least October. I will be traveling. I'm back but still taking a break.

ABOUT ME

Asheville, NC, is my home by choice. It's an island in the South, great & vibrant arts community, wonderful weather, incredible mountain location. I live about 4 miles South of Downtown in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo on the third floor with no elevator (FYI). I volunteer at the C of C Visitor's Center and enjoy talking about the area with visitors from all over the States and the world.
I have two new rescue terrier type dogs who share my apartment.
My life is and has been incredibly interesting. I've lived in Ohio, Florida, Connecticut, California and North Carolina. Born & raised on a farm in Ohio,we moved to Florida, where I finished H.S.,got my Masters at FSU. Taught a few years at Univ. of Connecticut & had a professional children's Theatre Company. Rode a bicycle across the USA to Portland OR and ended in San Francisco, where I spent 6 years teaching & working in Palo Alto. Through necessity & luck, I was employed at a large corporation for 20 years became a corp. V.P. after the first 6 yrs. 12 Years ago, I retired and moved to Asheville.
And That's just the highlights to date...

PHILOSOPHY

It's always been "...to do my best to do my best..."
Meditation (walking) gives me my spiritual energy. Exercise and health consciousness give me my physical energy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My extra bedroom w/private bath is generally available.
I love to show off Asheville & I am very knowledgeable about the area.
I also love to travel and see new places, old places or any places. As I said, I do have 2 terrier type rescue dogs, so they are a consideration.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted circa 150 Surfers over nearly 9 years (Wow! How time flies.) But having had a very bad experience with a guest, I'm mostly only interested in past Surfers. Never mind I've gotten over it.

Interests

Any of the Arts or crafts, traveling, health & exercise, hiking, progressive politics, volunteering, reading (as much as possible), some writing (Each year for the past several years, I have written a play as a Christmas gift for several young nieces in Ohio. It is performed on Christmas Day. I don't do this anymore. The kids got older and not as much fun). Cooking and eating (in or out) are very high on my list of favorite things to do.
I go for long dog walks everyday, 4 to 8 mile range and that takes a bunch of time.
Spiritually,I practice some meditation which also comes from walks in the woods.

Music, Movies, and Books

Reading is my favorite liesure activity. I read almost anything, alternating between classics (I have not made it through Ulysses yet.) current best sellers (Once some one gives them to me or they come out in paperback.) mysteries, histories, biographies, etc. Currently I'm reading an historical novel that cores about 300 years of Texas History. Great books recently read: "The Nightingale", "All the Light We Cannot See", "The Museum Of Extraordinary Things" and many more.
Movies, unless they are epic types, I tend to wait until they come out on video, but I do like many, not all.
My musical tastes run toward oldies (60's, 70's, 80's) and stage or film musicals.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've recently done Tandem Skydiving twice. Solo (with training, of course) or tandem ... try it!
The best adventure of my life so far was riding a bicycle from Connecticut to Oregon and on down to San Francisco.
I have been in every state except Montana and Hawaii. I don't know how I missed them while living in California for 28 years. Although I'm basically an Eastener, I've found the West the most spectacular area of the USA, especially the four corners area, southern Utah, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico. California and the whole West Coast, including Canada are wonderful. Any coasts, East, West, South or Great Lakes can be beautiful and energizing for one's being.
Cruizeing the Danube.

Teach, Learn, Share

The most intrigueing people are travelers, readers, lovers of the earth, grounded in reality, find fun and joy in everyday things, enjoy and respect persons who are alike or different.
I am a natural tour guide for the out-of-doors, history and architecture/culture of where I happen to live at the time, right now it's Asheville, N.C.
