About Me

CURRENT MISSION

no mission, no purpose, no goal, just living... evolving... yeah :)

ABOUT ME

The little working ant trying to get on the top of the mound just to see what's out there.

PHILOSOPHY

Good things come in small packages... (32 byte small even - disregard the last part, it's a bad IT joke). Actually I don't believe in good or in evil. Things just happen so it's up to you to see them in the color of your desire.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Interests

I am interested in anything! I usually think of me as a small child who is learning to talk, to walk, is falling, is getting up. I don't think there will be a day when I could say that I'm through being a child, cause if this will happen then that would be the day when I will start dying.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like movies by Tarantino, Scorsese and Tim Burton.
Music with guitar and drums, and even with violin, sax and piano.
Books by Henry Miller, F Scott Fitzgerald, Kobo Abe, Kafka, Osho.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done things I'm proud of and I've done things that I'm less proud of. At the end of the day I think it matters to be aware of what happened, and not to let it slip by, cause I think everyone and everything is meant to teach you something. All you have to do is to be a good student. An amazing thing, in my opinion, is to rediscover yourself after you thought this couldn't happen anymore, eg. to teach an old dog new tricks :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I say, first of all don't judge. Don't expect from people to be other than they really are, don't shape the world using your models. The world is fine just the way it is. My opinion is that civilization equals tolerance, so respect and you shall be respected.

But enough about theory, let's talk about Romania, and especially, Cluj and its surroundings. I'll state some of my opinions about being a tourist in Romania, foreigner or native. I see this country as a place of extremes. There are astonishing natural landscapes, rough but beautiful mountains, deep forests, breathtaking cliffs, an unique delta and the seaside, historical and cultural monuments, art, poetry, music.

How to get there is also an adventure because many of the roads get broken but don't get fixed so if you travel by car, be sure to take a jeep or some extra money for repairs. Don't expect to see highways. The train is a viable alternative because it's cheap but a ride takes a lot of time.

The social aspects are cheesy and can take many forms. You can end up in a scene from an Emir Kusturica movie, or you can also meet people who will be your best friends. Romanians were one time ago known for their hospitality. Now I think this aspect has been left to chance. But why not try? :)

Cluj Napoca is known for being the heart of Transylvania. The city itself doesn't have much to offer but a mix of middle european and balcanic social life, some cultural and historical sights, two cathedrals and buildings from the beginning of the 20th century. You'll find this stuff in any touristic brochure so I'm not gonna enter in the details.

What I want to promote here would be the sport-adventure side. There are places to be seen near Cluj which I'm sure that you'll gonna enjoy. For example if you like climbing you'll love Turda Gorges, Aiud Gorges, Tureni Gorges, Rameti Gorges. Yeah, there are a lot of gorges, aren't there? :) Also you can try a tour with the bicycle along Aries Valley. There are many places you can go with the bicycle off road. Here is ok to camp anywhere. But as a piece of advice, don't camp too close to a sheep farm, because of the dogs. The trekking and mountaineering routes are countless.
