I live in New York City and work as a private teacher of literature and history. My greatest passion is writing--fiction in particular, but also essays and non-fiction. I love to tell stories and I love to hear them too!

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite authors are Vladimir Nabokov, James Joyce, Herman Melville, Virginia Woolf and many many others. I love great European cinema, especially Trauffat, Fellini, Bertolucci and Godard. I'm also a huge fan of the Coen Brothers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For this New Years Resolution I gave up TV, spotify, news articles, internet videos and everything that I think is a distraction from my writing. I don't find it that amazing, but whenever I tell someone, they seem to find it incredible.

I am writing this from a balcony at a hostel in Uzice, Serbia, and a pigeon just walked up the aluminum roof of the shed below me, and I could hear its feet making little tick-tick-ticks on the aluminum, and that seems pretty amazing. A dog just barked. The clouds are cirrus.

Whenever people ask me what subjects I tutor, I reply, "What do you need help in?" I'm up for teaching anything and I'm up learning anything.
