ABOUT ME

i'm a phd student and researcher in a field call science & technology studies. in my work, i'm exploring how working conditions in the biological sciences affect the ways in which people create knowledge in this discipline. i also teach at university, mostly in the area of gender & science.
i really like doing what i do, while at the same time trying to find the right balance between dedicated work and life beyond work. the biggest problem with work is that it leaves so little time for traveling, but i'm trying ;)
what else? i live in the center of vienna, sharing a flat with my best friend. we're both open-minded and friendly folks, both feminist and vegetarian with an inclination towards veganism (we have both been vegan for 5 years). at times, i like to go out a lot, i love to dance and i also dj in bars and clubs every now and then. at other times, i love to spend my weekends hiking and being in nature or just hanging out with my friends.
claudia and me have hosted a lot of guests from all over the world and made some amazing friends. i would love to welcome some more. it is important for me to really connect with the people we host, so please make sure to read our profiles and to let me know why you want to stay with us among all the great people on CS.

i have couch surfed in portugal, iceland, indiam the US and austria, and me and my lovely flat mate claudia have also hosted a lot of people from all over the world. i love both, cause i have met a lot of amazing people both ways, some of which have become my friends today.

perhaps its ghost dog by jim jarmusch that i like most of all movies. and volver by pedro almodovar. and dolls by takeshi kitano. and and and...
books is even more difficult. my most favorite one is by a young female german author, judith hermann, and its called "sommerhaus, spaeter" (summerhouse, later). i love short stories and i do write myself.
my taste in music is very diverse, at the moment i'm listening to tom waits, but in the afternoon it was bernadette la hengst and the organ...

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

during my trip to lisboa in september 08 i saw a cat-mummy and a rat-mummy in the streets of lisboa - not joking!!! they were leaning against a wall in a narrow street, i starred at them and some guys that worked in the house next to said something to me about the mummies - but unfurtunately i don't speak portuguese and they spoke no english. it seemed as if they had just discovered the mummified animals while doing some work in the old buildings basement. but unless i learn portuguese, travel back to lisbon (which is always a good idea), find that house again in the maze of lisbon's old city centre and start a large scale inquiry, the true story of the rat- & cat-mummies will always remain some kind of mystery...
