About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be good. Have fun. Stay challenged.

ABOUT ~US~

Hey guys! Deanna and I are a very laid back couple, who love to stay active and explore. After falling in love (a touch later in life), we decided to quit our jobs and reset. We put our savings into rental apartments that we hope to do well, and are going to try an around the world trip without a timeline - truly a dream for both of us.

We're super stoked to get abroad, experience new cultures - sights, sounds, scents, tastes and feels, as well as lifestyle and outlook - and we're hoping to do a ton of rock climbing along the way.

So, I guess like most of us in the Couch Surfing community, we feel the best part of travel is meeting amazing folks along the way!

Right now we're delayed by an injury (calcaneus fracture), so might be able to host in PR if it lined up the right way!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Been in apartments that have hosted quite a bit, had an amazing experience surfing through Argentina, and once my wife and I land, hopefully we'll be in a situation to host again! Will definitely be available for meet ups when we're not on the road, at the least.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Incredible and entirely positive surfing experiences in Argentina, as well as in apartments that've hosted before in San Francisco - yet to have a negative, knock on wood, but do try to put some effort in reaching out to folks that seem like we'd vibe with!

Interests

Travel might be redundant here . . .

Rock climbing, snowboarding, live music/DJ dancing, beach laying, studying/learning, friend making, beer drinking, wine drinking. . . . . cooking . . . . reading.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite music? Live music! Between the two of us though, a lot of funk, reggae, electronic, jam bands, bluegrass, heck some zydeco, electro swing, 80s (just found out I like 80s Italian Disco Pop....Two by Two by Two!), and even some pop.

More of a fiction reader - can geek out to fantasy, but also read literary fiction and some best sellers here and there. Would love to broaden this out though! Deanna reads non-fiction, I just need to take the plunge!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Deanna and I supported a Rasta community that we met on a road trip through South Africa. The humble request was for a washing machine at their "creche" (nursery/pre-school/kindergarten) . . . many of their kids only had a few pairs of clothes and needed washing, along with blankets, toys, etc.

Well, we were able to raise some extra money from family, and a month or so after visiting them we flew back to get them not only the washing machine, but also a large industrial oven and stove with a few tanks for gas for their community soup kitchen. The time we spent to them really had an impact on us, because it was SUCH a POSITIVE story of a community pulling themselves up and really doing all they could to provide opportunities to their children. They do so much not only for their immediate community, but also for the youth of the township more broadly. To keep in touch and see the delicious meals, dancing, and smiling children is such a joy, and really showed how a relatively small amount of money can have a huge impact when directly used to fund community infrastructure.

We're setting some funds aside on our trip in case we happen to have other special connections with communities that are rising, but have needs, where we are fully confident our giving of actual infrastructure items will have tangible impact for their day to day.

Teach, Learn, Share

We both love to cook - and would like to think we're halfway decent at it too ;)

Deanna can teach yoga, has done her teacher training, and obviously is a physio/physical therapist! She has the real skills.

I am not sure what good I am other than dumb labor, but maybe hiding some renaissance skills that I am not thinking about! I've taught English before?
