About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Trying to inject more travel into my life
ABOUT ME
My name is Dan DelMain, a native of Portland OR. I've always been a go getter and when I when I experience something I enjoy, I try to do more of it. In my travels, which I'm sure is limited compared to other Couch Surfers, I realize it's not always the sights, scenes and sounds which make a trip memorable, it's the people you met.
PHILOSOPHY
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."
Henry David Thoreau
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Because I am a newbie, I want to ease my way into it. I think I will start off by offering to meet up for a drink or coffee for anyone visiting Portland. I guess when I travel, I would like the same; to see the city through the eyes of a local.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first and only Couch Surfing experience was quite interesting. In Quebec City, I made a Dutch friend who was about to embark on his first Couch Surfing experience. When I learned the hostel we were staying at was booked for the evening, my friend offered to ask his host surfers if I could crash with them. They agreed to take me up for the night. Wow. Even without a Couch Surfing account, these wonderful people were wiling to take me in.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
There are 2 experiences which I consider the best of my life. The first, seeing the Eiffel Tour in Paris just after dusk when the lights begin to flash intermittently.
The second is a completely different kind of experience. In 2003, my Bagpipe Band won the World Championships in Glasgow Scotland, beating 41 bands. It was incredible feeling to be apart of something bigger than any single person.
Teach, Learn, Share
Because I am a native of Portland and lived in most quadrants of the city, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable. Although it's a small city, it has a big heart and lots of great things to offer. Visit me and I will share with you a different side to Portland.
