About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To continue to learn from the amazing people around me

ABOUT ME

I am pretty easy going and I love to get to know people. I've just returned from a year living in Thailand, and I'm pretty busy re-building my life in Canada, but I would be open to visiting with CS'ers coming through the city!

Despite the fact that Winnipeg is famously self-depreciating, I do love my city and I'd be more than happy to share some of my favourite spots with new people whenever I am home.

PHILOSOPHY

Everyone has something special and unique to offer, and I insist on seeing the best in people. Time is limited and I don't intend to waste it dwelling on the negatives.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have gone to a couple of CS events in Winnipeg, and had the opportunity to surf a couple of times as I travelled through Europe. I have had nothing but good experiences, and am incredibly grateful to those who opened their homes to me

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been very lucky to have incredible people open up their homes to me along my travels. My goal is to one day be able to do the same for others!

Interests

My spending money is pretty evenly split between live music, coffee, and general adventuring. I also love reading, theatre, camping, hiking, generally being outdoors, yoga, and of course, travelling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm open to almost everything, but most of my favourites fall under the category of Folk in some way or another. Many of my favourite artists are Canadian (Dan Mangan, Royal Canoe, The Weakerthans, etc), but other current favourites include The Head and the Heart, Frank Turner and Ben Howard.

Movies: Princess Bride has been my go to movie since I was about 7. I just adore it. As for broader interests, I tend to like quieter films (Weekend, directed by Andrew Haigh, is a recent favourite in this regard), but I am pretty open (if uninformed) about my movie choices.

Books: I am an English major, and am always reading. I have a really, really hard time choosing favourites. Some things that have passed through my shelf recently include Zadie Smith, Thomas King, Margaret Atwood, Miriam Toews, Hemingway, etc

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in Bangkok for a year, in an area where being a tall white woman made me basically a walking circus attraction and no English was spoken

I'm sure I climbed every set of stairs that Europe's cultural attractions had to offer me in a 4 month backpacking stint

I saw the ocean for the first time visiting my best friend in Halifax. She`s a marine bio student, so I got the VIP treatment on the docks- the jellyfish, squid, crabs and snails were all pretty exciting for this prairie girl.

Teach, Learn, Share

As the previous field may have indicated, I am fairly easily excited, and as a result I am okay at a lot of things, instead of super strong in one or two. My newest adventure: cooking! I didn't have a kitchen for a year, and I missed it more than I expected. So far, no one has complained about my experiments!

As for learning, I am an ever-willing student. You can learn incredible things if you go through life with an open mind.
