About Me

Hi! I'm an eclectic chap, currently on sabbatical after too much time in the adult working world. I just completed a year of teaching English in South Korea, and now I'm doing what backpacking and wandering I can in the COVID era.

I love long distance motorcycle touring, hammock camping, getting off the beaten track, and exploring with no particular destination in mind. I love nothing more than discovering random roadside wonders, abandoned buildings covered in art, and street tacos.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I don't like short-term, over produced tourism. The best experiences I've had in my travels have come from sitting on a new friend's couch, finding out what they love about their hometown over beers (and, inevitably, tacos). I've been desk-bound through work, and then COVID, for the past five years now, and I'm ready to hit the open road and meet new people!

Interests

Tacos. That's what it really boils down to.

Also communal music and singing - I grew up in a charismatic church environment, and there's something beautiful about everyone singing together.

Grafitti. Books. Philosophy. Sociology. Creeks, rivers, and waterways.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to list - But one of my favorite movie, book, and music combinations is "Into the Wild."

Lately I've been listening to a lot of M83 and the Oblivion soundtrack, and The Expanse and Love, Death and Robots have been my go-to binge watches.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ran away from a hippo once!

Teach, Learn, Share

I've spent a lot of time doing activities that require active risk management and mitigation - everything from professional 911 emergency response, to working with a tree surgeon, rock climbing, riding motorcycles, and traveling in austere environments. So I'm really good at helping people face their fears, build realistic threat models, and make good decisions about the risks they are considering taking.

I can also diagnose and fix most motorcycle problems, and I worked in financial services for a bit, so I can help you fix your credit score and plan for a mortgage.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good cheer, good music, good book recommendations, wine and beer, and stories from the road!
